Synopsis

Tommie is the absolute loser in his home district of Cologne-Kalk: no money, no apartment of his own, no girlfriend. In the exhaust workshop where he toils, the foreman is constantly angry with him. But Tommie is in a great mood: The video freak dreams enthusiastically through the fantasy world of film art, preferably with the bust sex star Gianna S. in the leading role. Tommie collects exhaust pipes. When he steals a particularly capital specimen from Jupp's swank Mercedes, he gets into real trouble. He has no choice but to return the exhaust to Jupp, but his deadly ultimatum of procuring a case of the rare beer brand "Ramsdorfer Kölsch" by seven o'clock in the evening proves to be insanely difficult. Because at the very same time, "Gianna S." is expected in town...

Horst in Translation ([email protected]) "Voll normaaal" is a German movie from 1994 and it features Tom Gerhardt playing the main character. Gerhardt is an actor who was certainly much more famous in the 1990s and early 2000s here in Germany than he is today. And honestly, looking at what he did her, as writer and lead actor, his fading popularity is probably a good thing. This film runs for approximately 90 minutes and features a handful of actors that are still fairly famous today, almost a quarter of a century later. These would be Hilmi Sözer, Veronica Ferres, Uwe Fellensiek, Katja Flint and Rolf Zacher. But if you know a bit about German film, you will also recognize immediately that these people are not known because of their great range, but because of their charisma and recognition value instead. There are no strong actors in here. Then again, this is a film that has a script with which it is impossible to give great (or even good) performances at all.It is the story of a likable (not really), but pretty dumb mechanic who gets involved innocently with criminal (and very unlikable) forces, but thanks to his friend, his humor and his general approach to life he masters one difficult situation after the next and the director Ralf Huettner ("Vincent will Meer") clearly wants us to cheer for Gerhardt's character. But why would you? Maybe only if you are intellectually on the same level as the protagonist. In any case, Hoettner has done better on several occasions in his career and this one here is definitely a contender for worst work of his body of work. i wish I could say the same about Gerhardt, but his character here is so over-used and unfunny that it is almost painful to watch. And lets be honest, his shtick is almost always the same. The saddest thing about this film, however, is that two sequels followed and maybe there will even be more as the third entry to this garbage franchise was done only five years ago. I hope not. This film is evidence that klamauk comedies did not only exist in the 1970s (Carrell, Richter, Roberts) or 1980s (Gottschalk, Krüger), but that they also existed in the 1990s. A questionable achievement and there is really no reason for Gerhardt to be proud of it. Major thumbs down from me. Stay far far away from this one. It is as loud as it is annoying and unfunny.
seraphin-5 Switch off your brains and enjoy! Two likable but entirely brainless dumb-wits and their crude environment provide the framework for just-as-dumb jokes. And it works! Not for everyone - but humour is always a matter of taste. Not every single gag works out fine. But a lot of them really do - at least in my humble opinion. I just do not like one single character in it - the guy with the huge glasses. But he is just in two scenes: in the video store and in front of the tour bus of Gianna S - so just ignore him.I love, however, Tom Gerhardt as the lead character and his mocking at real-life dumb-wits. There are some people who actually talk this way; luckily they are few and in between :-)And there is also a chubby hot chick who is the lead character's sister. Veronica Ferres, who is a really hot woman nowadays and a well renowned actress, well, I guess she was young and she needed the money. Seriously, she does a tremendous job also in this comedy about dumb proletarians.Bottom line: Not for everybody! Definitely! But if you can enjoy low-level humour and just relax and enjoy, well then go see it. I for one was pleasantly surprised!
tessnopfer Before watching "Voll normaaal" you must consider this is not supposed to be an intelligent film. Neither story nor dialogues make any sense to say the least, but this makes it so hilarious! It's like techno music. Itmay be cheesy. It may be goofy. Sensitive people may try to avoid it unconditionally. But if you like to spend a night to switch off your brain (I recommend drinking alcohol before seeing it)and just enjoy yourself it is definitely worth watching respectively listening ;). The story is by the way about an antisocial family having to deal with their messed up life in the Ghetto of Cologne. Great Stuff!!!!!!!!!
Chris-605 wow, i have to say that this is the most stupid movie i have ever seen, but it is fun.All the associal people, the tasteless "Italia 90"(the football world cup)-t-shirt of Mario and Dolly Buster(schwabbel, wabbel)! So turn up your brain and enjoy this flick. It is worth it.
