It looks like the film makers tried. But no points for trying. They had a budget, and they blew it. The sets are nice, but not great, too many things look cheap and fake. Most of the film looks like it's being shot and is shot in a studio/stage. Decent cinematography and lighting. The main problem here is the store, it's boring and the dialogue does not help. We get this stupid soap opera between a husband and wife, wife going after the young boatboy, and some other drama nonsense. The part of the mad husband and the supposed mutated child, and the old legend was not expanded upon. Then we get the boat explosion, and the radio is destroyed. Who did that? Finally, the lighthouse goes up in flames and explodes. Super fake looking. I'd rather see cgi, or cartoon, or just read about the explosion. The mystery about the private eye is also very shoddy. Too many loose ends here.Best part is the beginning. We get the credits over a fake lighthouse, with tons of fog. Even though it's fake it looks cool. Then we get the father and son fishermen going to the island and finding the dead and naked teenagers and one of them kills the old man. This is all good stuff. Even the scene in the doctor's office with the surviving teenager and the lights and flashbacks were pretty cool. Once we reach the archaeology meeting and then head to the island, it's all cheap props, nonsense dialogue, crap acting, more crap props, soap opera, cheap stage/studio looking nonsense, crap caves and cult evil setup, mad husband and his mutated son, then the fire/explosion.All of this could have worked. Even the crappy story could have worked. Even the crappy dialogue. But once you add in the crappy acting, we get a pile that adds up to crap. Or maybe I should blame the director for NOT directing the actors to capture better performances. Maybe it's the English/British dialogue or acting. No humor, no wit, very square. Killing were OK, not great. Also, who the hell thought that naming the island Snape was a good idea. Snape?! The lighting, cinematography, editing, music and sound effects were all professional. This helps making it watchable. I enjoyed parts of this. But they really screwed it up.Rating is a C-/D, or 4/3 stars. Let's go with 4 stars. Watchable.

Really enjoyed this psychedelic, campy oldskool horror. A trippy and almost art-house first 15 minutes or so then settles into a Scooby Doo-esque mystery romp of early 70s proportions. Some of the dialogue is priceless (I was dying at the pointless exchange about seagulls) and the whole 'free love baby, yeah let's smoke some pot...oh hang on we're on an evil island with a killer loose!!' vibe was entertaining. For a pre slasher, pre giallo era film it actually has some surprisingly nasty sequences. If anything lets it down, it's that the initial premise involving the lone survivor seems to get abandoned somewhere along the way. Apart from that, very good fun.

The tower sounds can release human's desire, free your soul and mind, then you just can do anything what you wanna to do in here. But I think the Baal idol can explain everything, but have the question. Why still have people worship an evil god? for what? have any purpose? or just start some new slaughter for worship him? I can't find the answer then I try to think deeper dig more, It's possible have a psychological element inside in this movie, maybe all thing in the island was never be happen, what they see, they think all was some weird illusion. This movie's theme was brand new in 70's, but the script just unsightly... If this movie have sequel or reboot with a new things, It can be a new upsurge. But this movie still work to collect, if you are horror film's big fan.IN LAST, JUST NEVER GET IN TO THE EVIL ISLAND!!! DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT!!!(but for Halloween, it's excited experience!)

The original title of the British film is "Tower of Evil". It is known in the U.S. as "Beyond the Fog" and in Canada as "Horror on Snape Island" or "Horror of Snape Island".Not a film for me.... I kept fast forwarding and all I saw was naked young people wanting to have sex - minus one female. Why all the pointless sex scenes and nudity? To fill out the film because there isn't enough of a story to make a movie out of I'm afraid.Yes this is one of the prelude films to the stereo-typical slasher films of the 80's. We all know what happens already: A group of over-sex young people find a way to isolate themselves and then get picked off one by one by a slasher. *Yawn!* The monster at the end of this film is quite a laugh... stupid looking really. Not at all scary. Some people may really enjoy this film - but I for one did not like what little of it I watched. I'm just glad we have a fast forward button.I will give this movie a 2 just for the attempt of a Gothic atmosphere.2/10
