Kristopher Lee The ending was perfect. This IS the definition of a Greek tragedy. I haven't seen a movie like this in a very long time. At least, a movie that didn't suffer from a hero complex, as do most action movies tend to propagate.A man conditioned to kill for his country, then finds out the truth as to what his country/corporation uses him for. Tries to right the wrongs that would have ultimately stayed with him for the rest of his life. Knowing that, in the end, he is just one man. One man who did everything in his power to stop the injustices that he perpetuated wittingly and unwittingly. This is why in a twenty-four hour cycle, twenty-four United States Incorporated soldier's take their own life. They know what they do is wrong, yet haven't the understanding as to why, as to what purpose their actions serve. The only difference here is, Bobby caught a glimpse of the truth. Acting accordingly, and truthfully, to himself."Fix reason firmly within her seat. Bring to her tribunal every fact, every opinion. Boldly question even the existence of God. For if there be one, he must pay homage to that of truth, than of blindfolded fear." -Thomas Jefferson
R Lynch The best part of this movie was the ending (pun intended. No seriously. It MIGHT be a SPOILER.. but... they didn't explain what his issues were with himself and what he did in the war that he served in.. (what he did that bothered him so much).. if they would have filled in THAT gap (ie. he shot a woman/women/child/children, or saw a comrade seriously injured or killed) it would have made the movie much smoother. I am not dense, and I had no problem following the movie but the fact that they didn't even give a glimpse of what he had been through made me feel that something was missing the whole movie. It just didn't sit well with me. Other than that I really liked the movie. If it had filled in that gap I would have given this movie 8 stars. One other small note (but it might be nit picking) I think the movie was drawn out in parts. More or less in some parts of the movie it was uninteresting and I found myself wandering off.
thebogofeternalstench A soldier returns from serving in Afghanistan to a $hithole tower block estate, looking for a job, doesn't find one, but gets recruited by the 'intelligence service'....why? Because hes an ex para?Really stupid plot. Very unrealistic. The main actor has one expression throughout the entire film, no charisma what so ever. This is the guy that played the retard brother in Dead Mans Shoes. The gang is pathetic. There's a shoot-out at the end with no sign of police ever showing up.The whole film has the same mundane, going nowhere pace to it.The main character likes to punch his wall and spit at the mirror....I was really bored throughout. I didn't care about any of the characters or what was happening because the director doesn't make us feel anything. The ending was pitiful.Give this one a wide birth.
GUENOT PHILIPPE I already knew, when I bought it, that this film would be for me. The UK noir crime film at his best. With an unavoidable social background, British oblige, we watch here the story of an ex soldier in Afghanistan who gets back in his neighbourhood and has to deal with everything and every one: dealers, terrorists seed, misery...I rapidly thought of one of the early Denzel Washington's film: FOR QUEEN AND COUNTRY, where he played here exactly the same kind of character. A man in struggle with a hopeless fate, a former SAS soldier Falklands war vet. Dark, violent, superbly shot and characterized, a very good feature.
