This is the kind of movie that can reach you out there, right when you're not expecting it, and hit you so hard you wanna scream. Actors are great. Atmosphere so real. Cinematography and rythm excellent. Sorry I'm french canadian. My english sucks anyway I'd be speechless. I should go back and find the director's name, it's important. Thanks dude. You're as great as Sidney Hall is. Thanks to the whole cast. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Love you Elle, you have it all. Great actress. ; - )

It was the title that initially caught my interest. I had never heard of this movie and no idea what it was about. Was I in for a surprise. I was hooked from beginning to end.Exceptional acting all round. This could have so easily become a melodrama, rather, it was the reality soaking through that made it brilliant. One critic on here cited 'unlikely events'... hardly, life is full of these kinds of messes, the kind that eventually wear people thin and change the entire course of their lives. Perhaps some critics haven't started living yet.
It can be so easy for directors and editing to lose their way when doing different timelines and yet this film doesn't. It keeps you focused and informed. That's a major feat in this film as it really has a bit of hopping to do.From the characters you simply can't like to the characters you cry for and those your heart breaks for, this story and this film is absolutely captivating from beginning to end.

Im not a drama lover/watcher and never wrote reviews about any movies in my life , but that one was exception and believe me i saw many films in my life.
it almost made me cry and i don't watch drama movies in my life.
the film is well played i think all the actions were there in the right moment in the right time. it actually made me think about life and search for the meaning of it and few other thoughts about different life directions and people in my life.
i guess iII watch this movie again

The Vanishing of Sidney Hall was by far my favorite movie of the year. I watched it thinking it would be a stinker because of the ugly reviews given it by Rotten Tomatoes and The Sundance Film Festival. The script was well written with perfect timing and the cinematography was haunting. I can only conclude that someone had blacklisted this movie. This film was beautiful from start to finish.
