Jackie Chan manages to play a believable character Bob Ho however I think it's hard to believe that Jillian whom he is dating actually likes him back as it looks like there is a big age gap and from the start of the film I felt you didn't really feel the chemistry from them at all, they seem distant and Bob acts more in love then Jillian. Apart from the occasional unnecessary scene I believe the film was good it was an enjoyable experience which does give you the occasional laugh. The three children play good roles Farren however I found very irritating and not really a likable character all though she plays the role of stereotypical brassy teenager she doesn't look much older then ten herself which makes it feel like she is just not a very nice person at all a very hard to like character. Strangely I thought Billy Ray Cyrus would be a character I didn't like but he is the lovable hill billy and Bobs friend who makes him likable. Overall the film is just an OK watch it's got children humour and is a OK storyline.

Chuck Norris made "Top Dog", Arnold Schwarzeneger "Jingle All the Way", Silvester Stallone "Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over", Vin Diesel "The Pacifier", Dwayne Johnson "Tooth Fairy", Bruce Willis "North", Kurt Russell "Sky High" and Jackie Chan "The Spy Next Door".Its like an unwritten law that Action Movie Stars make at least one bad Kids film in their career. Well I'm excited for Jason Statham movie. :DThe Good: ...The Bad: -I don't know where to start... -The Bad Jokes(even for Kids) -Billy Ray Cyrus and George Lopez as CIA Agents!?

As the movie played and as it ended, I can vouch for this movie. It really ain't bad at all, even if it's primarily made for kids. The plot and characterization is what drives this. The acting ain't stellar by any stretch of the imagination but little kids don't care about that type of thing. It's dumbed down just for them. Billy Ray Cyrus' metaphors were pretty funny all the way through. There's many lessons given that apply to both adults and kids so it does have a positive aspect. The action, while minimal for a Jackie Chan movie, wasn't out of place, excessive, or distracting. This is really about a guy and girl wanting to be happy. Without spoiling anything, I think the relationship moved a bit too fast and it gives the wrong impression to impressionable young brains. But you'll see what I mean at the end of the movie. There are the usual blooper reels during the credits but nothing after. There's plenty of laughs. Lots of sight gags. Almost all the characters have their own identity, especially the kids. And many a single parent can relate to the domestic life displayed here; mom or dad because it covers both grounds from young kids to young teens. All the problems are there as well as the solutions. This is a good family movie and would make a good date movie for a goody-two-shoes couple. For what it is and who it appeals to, I give it 7 out of 10 stars. I certainly wouldn't pay for it (and I didn't). I think it's worth waiting for on DVD but that don't mean it's a bad movie at all. It'd make for a good family night out at the movies if you have some preteens. Some compare it to The Pacifier (which I haven't seen and don't want to see) and others have issues with the interracial dating but they need to get over it and take it for what it is. Turn off your brain or revert back to when you still peed your bed and enjoy the movie.

This movie got negative reviews because critics didn't take into account that it's a kids movie. There is a script...it's barely there, but what's important is that it is there.Basically it's about a Chinese spy named Bob Ho who is on loan to the CIA. He's planning to retire so he can marry his next door neighbor, Gillian, a single mother with three kids who hate Bob. When Gillian has to leave town, Bob is in charge of looking after the kids while fighting off his nemesis, a Russian named Poldark.Jackie Chan is just Jackie Chan. Comic while still providing decent fight scenes. Nothing special. Not surprisingly, Madeline Carroll did a good job as Farren, Gillian's rebellious 13-year-old stepdaughter. She did great, considering what she was given. The character of the son was extremely annoying. Just everything about him got on my nerves. And the four-year-old was adorable enough. The fight scenes are all slapstick. They're a bit over-the-top and I question the plausibility of some of them, but keep in mind that they're designed to entertain kids. And they were a bit funny.Overall, this is just your standard kids movie. Moms and dads will undoubtedly fall asleep, but little kids are going to have a blast.
