TheNameBrand The CG for its time is quite poor. Plot is super predictable, acting is way sub par, and the use of Nic Cage is minimal which is my biggest concern honestly. At any rate, It's not hard to see why it has 40% on Rotten Tomatoes, and I couldn't agree with them more.
Kirpianuscus to expect more than a nice movie is the basic error in this case. not because it is a film for kids but because it reflects the expectation of a public who needs total shows, to is fan of illusion and who puts the technology on the first chair. and Nicholas Cage or Alfred Molina are ideal options for theirs roles. Cage for the experience from the National Treasure, with same emotions, courage and sketch of acting, Molina from the Spiderman, as the great villain who reflects few special nuances of his feelings. so, a game more than a film. and, maybe, the only option to remind the poem of Goethe. so, a nice film, like a form of crazy cooking. different ingredients, a lot of tools, few impressive scenes and a drawing of plot. this is all !
chasdj The Sorcerer's Apprentice is intended for All Viewing Audiences and I would easily call it a film for "family and friends." We find Merlin, His Apprentices, Sorcery and Magic, Betrayal ... and Love. The film is well cast, the story well written, and the performances well acted. Nicholas Cage portrays a loyal Apprentice, Alfred Molina once Cage's friend and rival, and Jay Baruchel a modern day Apprentice. Jay plays "Dave," who at age 10 is thrust by fate or destiny into the path of Cage's "Balthazar Blake." Young Dave is utterly unprepared for even a brief brush with the world of Magic and shyness trends toward the nerdy, geeky, path that also leads toward Science. Jay Baruchel was new to me. I found his portrayal of Dave, now 20, to be excellent acting, as both Magic and Love re-enter Dave's life unexpectedly. The Sorcery, special effects, and cast take the viewer on a fast paced adventure into serious matters "spell-bound" together with fantasy and science. Different worlds, or two sides of the same coin? I highly recommend "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" and hope this review is useful in your viewing decision.
daydreamer_loves-write Four years later and my family still loves this film. From ages 3-40 we all love this movie and they could not have picked a better cast to bring life to these characters. I grew up loving fantasia and it's the best tribute I've seen towards it and while still holding its own story. Wonderful for any age, entertaining and definitely going to be a classic for ages to come. many movies you find when they use magic it's very theatrical yet lacking making you feel it would have been better left out or just plain embarrassing, this movie feels relate-able with very normal characters while throwing in magic that is a little different then the usual, you don't get the cringe feeling when they are doing it. We loved the music set for the movie that One Republic did and it happens to be a great tribute to Tesla, it did get my kids more interested in what exactly it was and who the man was that invented it.
