David Roggenkamp Take one badass king that has given up his title and still wants to make a living as a mercenary, and a bumbling fool that is as strong as an ox and you have a match made in heaven. These two are sent by their king to free a realm in exchange for gold; only the gold has been taken for military spending and a king's daughter is offered in exchange instead. Once the former king and his comrade head for yet another encampment things just get weird. Not only does the story have a plot, within a plot, within a plot, it features mongoloids, elephants, several rival armies, ninja, and even demon warriors from the land of the dead. Keep in mind, this has nothing to do with the heroes of the story, they are merely caught up within the works and taking care of business. This movie goes in so many directions, but if the word epic were to come into play, this movie puts the word and it's use to shame. I recommend this movie, especially for the comedy that often ensues.Originally posted to Orion Age (http://www.orionphysics.com/?p=3460).
wbriggs-62627 This was a fun movie to watch on an afternoon where you're not doing a lot anyway. This stands up well to any of the Scorpion King movies and Krystal Vee, I feel, is one of the standouts of the cast. She does a good job acting and lets face it-she is incredibly easy to watch. The people trashing this movie are just taking themselves too seriously regarding a movie that wasn't ever meant to cause you to pause and ponder the meaning of life. If you don't regard yourself as a movie snob or a professional movie critic this movie is a lot of fun to watch. It will never be in the top 100 movies of all time but it you're interested in the Scorpion King movies this one is as good or better than any of the others. Take it for what it's worth.
David Holt (rawiri42) What a pity Dwayne Johnson didn't want (presumably) to be the Scorpion King any more - especially after receiving the biggest payday in history for a debut performance in Scorpion King. His replacement, Victor Webster, might appeal to some girls as a "pretty boy" but he sure ain't no Rock! The casting for this movie could have been a lot better and, in turn, have perhaps improved the final result considerably. Krystal Vee as Silda was OK but, being virtually unknown and Thai, didn't help things much. Lucy Lawless would have been better (and, of course, if the producers could have afforded her, so would Angelina Jolie!). This brings up an interesting hypothesis. Would a big-name cast of appropriate actors have made this movie into a worthwhile enterprise? That is to say, was the script all that bad or was it the way it was directed and delivered? Maybe a bit of both. However, it does bring up the question; is it worth penny-pinching when making a big-screen epic-type movie or would it have been worth going into a bit more hock and casting it right in the first place?Billy Zane was bearable as Talus but, all the time he was on screen, I imagined Alan Rickman in the role - it was made for him! Furthermore, is Ron Perlman really right to play a king - albeit a barbarian type fellow? And Selina Lo was just not right at all as the undead witch. Tem Morrison (the only other reasonably well-known actor) was in his element but seemed somewhat uncomfortable in the role - which left me wondering why. Was it a failure to communicate with the director?Another reviewer has already commented on the "mish-mash" of different cultures all coming together in this movie and I have to agree. Where and when was it actually set? The info tells us that the setting was ancient Egypt but, if that's the case, why was the star referred to as an Acadian - a definition that didn't even exist until the 17th century in eastern Canada? And why are there Japanese ninjas, a Scandinavian mercenary and what seemed like Persian warriors all in on the act? And, finally, what on earth were Matayus and Talus doing with optical telescopes which weren't even invented until some thousands of years after this action took place?Sorry Roel Reiné, you should have done a lot more homework before calling "Action"! You have left us with too many questions!
EchoMaRinE I guess the director thought he could compensate the bad script and the bad directing with cheesy jokes. Unfortunately he couldn't. With little effort, this could have been an OK movie. The idea is not bad. The acting is not fantastic but I assume they did what they were told to do. So the failure boils down to the director. Let me explain why this movie is rated this low. It is boring (I mean it. Even the fight scenes are boring. You see two people fighting and the rest of the crowd in the battle field do silly movements), there are so many cheesy jokes and they are not funny at all, the sound tracks are not appropriate for this genre, acting is cheesy as well and the directing is ultra bad. Overall, not worth watching.
