How can those two genres even mix? Gore horror and classic buddy movie action sizzle together. Fallen marine Bart returns home in a coffin, but not for long, much to the surprise of his best friend Joey played by the quite brilliantly unique Chris Wylde. Upon rising from the grave, Bart seeks solace in his buddy who does what he can to aid his dead friend - even if it means bending the rules a bit. When it seems that only human blood can keep Bart from rotting away, Joey takes him to the streets as a vigilante killer and so plenty of warm blood to drain. The movie develops in a way that will hook you to the brilliant end sequence. The performances are world class, and the script razor sharp blending black humor and witty dialogue from start to finish. Zombie movies get an original slant here. This is the very best of the indie movie industry.

On the promotion it was written, really funny really gory. Can't say that I agree with that. Not that it was a bad flick but i didn't have to laugh a lot throughout this flick. My only moment of a smile was the dildo scene. But was it gory. Not even that but the effects were great. This isn't your normal zombie flick. It's been seen from the point of a zombie this time who just can't die. First it all looks great to be a zombie and yes they can help society by killing scum but after a while things go out of hand and questions come in about why walking around like an undead. As I said, the effects were very good as did the acting by David Anders (the zombie) and Chris Wylde (as his friend Joey). It never bored me because you want to know what is going on but maybe clocking in at two hours is a bit too long. Nevertheless a nice entry in the zombie genre. But not as gory as stated and funny, not for me.Gore 1,5/5 Nudity 1/5 Effects 4/5 Story 3,5/5 Comedy 0/5

"The Revenant" sets itself apart from other horror comedies because it introduces a new-hold on a minute before I go on I would just like to mention something. I brought up the fact that this movie is a "horror comedy" does anyone remember when movies just fit into one category? Now we have rom-coms and dramedies starring Brangelina and Bennifer. Yeah even names get combined (or at least on the E! Channel). Someone even had the genius to combine a cheeseburger and a donut into a single food item. As humanity evolves it seems so does every thing around it. Oh right the movie I was going to review-sorry for trailing off there. David Anders plays Bart an undead soldier who is brought back to life where he spends the film lamenting over what he has become. Just kidding he decides to become a vigilante with his stoner pal Joey played by Chris Wylde. You may recognize David Anders from his stint on "Heroes" and you may not recognize Chris Wylde at all, although I do recall him being in a few DiGiorno Pizza commercials in the early 2000's.I found that the film got really entertaining once it became like a Boondock Saints clone but with a zombie guy? Or is he a vampire? Yeah when I mentioned at the beginning that this movie sets itself apart from other horror comedies it is because it introduces a ghoulish being called a revenant. Revenants (Not to be confused with Replicants from the 1982 movie Blade Runner) are essentially a hybrid of a zombie and a vampire. More tendencies of vampire exist than a zombie, with a revenant being of normal intellect while also having immunity from most vampire weaknesses. Decapitation turns out to be the only fatality to a revenant. The story goes through some thrilling turns as Bart becomes an undead crime fighter while also having to reveal that he is still alive to his mourning girlfriend Janet and her friend Matty. Matty is a nurse who also practices some sort of aura meditation thing. She is one of my favorite aspects of the entire movie and sadly she is under-used. The concept begins with a great amount of excitement and energy but sadly it falters towards the end.Overall if you enjoy movies that have a supernatural element in them then you will like this. Since zombies and vampires and David Anders are the biggest things in Hollywood now then this movie is 3 for 3 so it's good but not great. There is some real good chemistry that exists between the characters giving you a feeling that their is more to the complex relationships. There is also some really outstanding conflicts that occur that our heroes must face. If only the second half is as good as the first I would say that it is a perfect film-instead it is AVERAGE at the best. It is a definite RENT though.

Remember how gritty and darkly funny Super was, with that message that one person really can be heroic...or just insane while taking out the bad guys? Remember how Fido with it's campy comedy made you root for the zombie... who seemed to be an overall great guy? Smash that together and you get The Revenant. The pacing is not the best, but it has a good story with a great ending reminiscent of the Worst Case Scenario Promo Trailers (they never got enough funding to make that movie). Plus it has some very memorable moments thanks largely due to the acting of the two leads. Some of the dialog and character choices were a little cheesy and maybe unrealistic, but the rest makes up for those short comings.Just to keep in mind, I can't really call this a zombie film, because it seems way closer to a vampire film, but it has the gross moments you'd expect from a zombie comedy and doesn't really remind me of any vampire films. There is a slightly drawn out scene that claims he is both, which I would dismiss due to the misleading "facts" provided, but I'm sure zombie fans can appreciate much of the film.
