This movie stands as one of the most legendary puppet movies ever created. Made in 1975 by two companions in my native Norway, it has become one of the most successful puppet animations ever made. I won't bore you with praise and praise for this movie, as I think all the reviews here have that. Suffice it to say, the movie is a genius, and is enjoyed by children and adults alike. Here are some fun facts for those of you who have no idea about this movie:1. It has sold 5.5 million tickets in Norway, and 23.6 million in Japan. 2. It took 3 years to make, and the uncut version is almost 5 hours long. Needless to say, they had to trim it, and ended up with the legend we know today. No other version exists, and never will exist. 3. A real life replica of Il Tempo Gigante is parked in our national museum in Hamar, Norway, and is 6.5m long and weights 2.2 tons, has 550 horsepower engine and top speed of 250km/h. Not bad for a home made car from 1975. 4. The car is reported to have 2000 horsepower engine in the movie, with a top speed of "it wont be a slow one in traffic". 5. The car has two speedometers, where one ends at 250 km/h and another takes over. 6. The pod racing scene from Star Wars episode 1 is a nod to this movie, and George Lucas went to Norway to find out how they did it in this movie in order to recreate it the same way. 7. Shown on TV every Christmas Eve for the last 35 years in Norway.Thats just some of it. Its a movie that belongs in any collection. Its been translated into a lot of different languages, so everyone can enjoy it. Rating 10000/10 :)

This is an almost 35 years old stop-motion doll/model film. In my opinion, it has NEVER been, and will never be surpassed! Sure, better techniques has evolved, but this film is a true masterpiece! The humour is (at least for us scandinavians) brilliant, and still holds up to this day. There are way too many epic moments to describe here, but one comes closer to my heart than others: When "Il Tempo Gigante" starts at the final race, it lays down some serious rubber on the asphalt. The asphalt then curdles up as serpentines behind the cars wheels! I was so freaked over this scene in 1976 (danish release), that it will stay in my mind forever! I find myself just waiting for this scene, every time I view this film! I've "only" seen this film some 30 times - and I *LOVE* it even more from time to time - and I'm 47 now..."Il Tempo Gigante" was later made as a full-size, driveable car (!), which I saw at a danish car-exhibition. It was GINORMOUS! (22 ft., or 6,7 meters long!) What a treat. (Google it!)I even own two copies of the PC-game! (Yes, it exists - and is every bit as entertaining as the film...)My only regret in this review is, that 10 is the highest vote - I'd gladly give 11...I urge you to watch this film, if you never have yet!

This film is unique, you won't ever see anything like it. The animation technique is patented, the characters are original and lively and all scenes are extremely carefully and detailed modeled. The movie is soaked with atmosphere and you can just lean back and enjoy it as you become familiar with each of the different personalities in the film. The exciting car race is wonderfully animated with plenty of details. Having been made 35 years ago this movie is still a winner as the environment it is happening in is kind of timeless, and the animation dolls are just as timeless. This film is a must see! ...and it's very suitable for kids as well.

People get really impressed of movies like "Team America", but this 30 year old movie doesn't even give space for competition. That something like this could be made 30 years ago is fantastic itself. They even started the shooting as early as in the late sixties. What makes this movie different from other movies in the same genre, is the characters. The details takes your breath away.I can't imagine how much time and effort Ivo Caprino has spent on this movie project. It is really a genuine masterpiece.Just see this movie. I haven't seen the translated versions, but if they are 10% as good as the original, it's worth it.
