The Man is a knockoff of a many other successful buddy cop films like 48 Hrs, Beverly Hills Cop, and Lethal Weapon. Not too say it doesn't have a couple of funny moments thrown in it's just they aren't new or clever. I laughed once the whole film and that was the "farting in the elevator" gag. After laughing about it for a bout thirty seconds I asked myself "what the hell? Am I two?" and then stopped.Yes, Samuel L. and Eugene Levy have a pretty good on screen chemistry going for them, but it's not enough to award this film too much more. The leads are strong, but not strong enough. The Man isn't even too confident with itself because it's run time (without credits) is 79 minutes. That's the bare minimum qualifications to be a theatrical "film." I'm shocked this wasn't a TV film or didn't get the direct-to-DVD treatment. The plot: ATF agent Derrick Vann (Jackson) is looking for guns that were recently stolen from an armory. Meanwhile Andy Fiddler (Levy) is a dentist salesman going to a convention in Detroit. After visiting a diner and been given a bag with a phone and a gun, Andy is arrested by Agent Vann. Vann realizes that the henchman who gave Andy the gun really mistook Andy for himself. Andy becomes Vann's "bitch," and the two are now working together on the crime to get the stolen guns back. Both Jackson and Levy are fit for their respective roles. Samuel L. is great at playing the bad cop with a deep voice and a no bulls--- attitude, while Levy is better at playing an always innocent guy or the talkative pushover. Jackson had cop experience in Pulp Fiction, and Levy had good innocence experience in American Pie.This is by no means a horrible movie. It's halfway decent. The thing is, it's a shame something like The Man can be released in theaters when other underrated gems like Frozen and LOOK sit on the sidelines just wishing a wider release could've happened. The Man didn't need to be made. It's nothing new or original. This review may have been short, but I don't know what else to say. I'm at a loss for words. Smiles are found in The Man, but they're found right when I decided on the review I was going to write for the film.Starring: Samuel L. Jackson and Eugene Levy. Directed by" Les Mayfield.

This movie was very funny. I'm glad I didn't see the low rating on IMDb until after I had rented it. The movie continues to be funny from beginning to end. Ignore the reviews on here if you are looking to be entertained and have a good laugh! Eugene levy is very funny in this. Samuel L Jackson is great as usual. Definitely worth watching! I recognized Luke Goss from my younger days when he and his twin brother were in the pop duo Bros. Funny! Great movie for this genre. Reminded me of The In- Laws also. There is not too much violence which is good. It's lighthearted overall. Worth watching for sure. I think possibly the reason a movie like this gets a low rating is because there are too many critics out there. If a movie like this is entertaining that's all it needs to be I think.

You'd think that a whole movie consisting of Samuel L. Jackson being Samuel L. Jackson would be awesome.Unfortunately you'd be wrong, at least in this case. SLJ needs a good script to hang his "schtick" on, otherwise it's just a lot of "bad mofo"-ry and looking menacing without any real substance. That's the problem with this movie. The script sucks, the characters suck, the dialog sucks, everything sucks. There's no "kick" to the "bad mofo", even when he's being violent. It's just perfunctory, like "I'm Samuel L. Jackson, bitches, you better recognize!" (Yo!)Eugene Levy is being Eugene Levy. Are we sensing a theme yet?I've read there were three script writers on this movie. I don't understand what they did. There's a review of "Attack of The Clones" up on YouTube. One of the segments talk about how Samuel L. Jackson is under used and the clips they use to illustrate that are from this movie. I can't think of any better way to visualize a "lack of Samuel L. Jackson" than this movie, that consists of nothing but.Avoid at all costs.

I don't know why, but something just made me wanna pick up the movie The Man. Samuel L. Jackson and Eugene Levy, why not? I have never seen Samuel in a comedy, so I thought this would be interesting and it seemed like a movie with a guaranteed laugh. While I did have moments where I laughed, like the scene where Andy tells the bad guys who Derrick is, that he's his, well, you'll have to see, I don't know if I can write it on IMDb. The story was good and the actors were fine, I'm not sure why, but the movie just didn't work or click like I thought it would.Andy is a dentist who is about to go make huge speeches around the country, coincidentally he is in the place of where a cop, Derrick, is going under cover to buy weapons from a gang. Andy is mistaken for Derrick and now has become part of the case pretending that he's interested in this stuff. But it may not happen since he's driving Derrick insane with his pure and wholesome image. The Man has a few good laughs that I'm sure you'll get, but I do warn you that the movie doesn't provide a full out comedy that you'll die laughing from. Eugene held his own, but Samuel in my opinion at least really cannot hold a comedy very well. He was meant to play like a serious but lovable tough guy cop, but it didn't work. So I'll leave this one up to you, if you wanna check it out, go ahead, because it's one of those films you'll have to see for yourself.5/10
