Synopsis

1920, rural Ireland. Anglo-Irish twins Rachel and Edward share a strange existence in their crumbling family estate. Each night, the property becomes the domain of a sinister presence (The Lodgers) which enforces three rules upon the twins: they must be in bed by midnight; they may not permit an outsider past the threshold; and if one attempts to escape, the life of the other is placed in jeopardy. When troubled war veteran Sean returns to the nearby village, he is immediately drawn to the mysterious Rachel, who in turn begins to break the rules set out by The Lodgers. The consequences pull Rachel into a deadly confrontation with her brother - and with the curse that haunts them.

asteoldo This film is actually a waste of time, please make a favour to yourselves and skip this, ABSOLUTELY DON'T WATCH IT.
Bob An Although maybe this film deserves more rating 7, I am giving 8 as I think the current rating is too low. This is a good film. It is not a horror, rather a mystery film with great setting - the house, village, park around the house. The actors - 3 main ones (brother and sister and sister's love interest) are really great in their roles and I must say they were really convincing! The opening lullaby is really haunting and those simple piano cords. It really gives a chilly beginning and somewhat sinister to the film, but, it is not really that it reveals the sinister horrors of the film, because, as I say, it is maybe 15% horror and 85% mystery. All in all, I recommend it. A good one in my opinion.
Deoglood If you enjoy easy-paced movies, you'll enjoy The Lodgers as I did. I found it easy to get drawn into the ambiance of the 1920's authentic Irish village, as the story builds firmly the culture of that period to give it the needed texture for the lore. I am unfamiliar if a poem repeatedly recited in the movie is based on anything historical, but it adds to the story pretty well even if a bit too often. While most ghost stories make us scared in the way supernatural things do, The Lodgers abundant apparitions aren't the only thing that makes the viewer uncomfortable - it visits a disturbing taboo that twists as the story unfolds, thankfully with intelligence.I've never been a fan of sudden 'boo' thrills, so the few provided were thankfully spooky and actually added to the story. This may not be on the top of the average typical viewer's thrillers, but is done well enough to be added to my October playlist, as the cinematography and acting are well done, and a story intriguing enough to satisfy someone looking for a good afternoon show on a breezy autumn day.
foose-57309 It's a haunting movie. It draws the viewer in, and mixes fear and suspense. It's not the typical horror film that just looks for shock and awe. The movie is well made, and the acting is superb.
