Eric Stevenson I seriously think this is on par with Uwe Boll's movies in terms of awful video game adaptations. I admit to never playing the "King Of Fighters" series. I was always more into "Mortal Kombat" and "Street Fighter". Still, KOF is a popular series and I saw an anime film based on it so I'm at least kind of familiar with the series. The thing everybody remembers is Mai Shiranui. She is simply breathtakingly beautiful and her personality wasn't too bad either. It's really sad when the other KOF film depicting her which showed her in increasingly skimpy clothes was actually a much more dignified representation of her.It seems like people don't even point out one of the worst parts of this movie. That is, the Dutch Angle. There are so many shots of this film that are done at an angle it's so distracting and just plain ugly looking. While not as bad as "Battlefield Earth", it's still painful to watch. I guess I'm just someone who doesn't like much of this technique used at all. Terry Bogard does eventually wear his signature clothes, but he's pretty much the only one. No one even dresses appropriately and while it's not as bad as "Street Fighter: The Legend Of Chun-Li" it's still insulting to the source material. This movie features ear held things that take people to other dimensions. Yes, it's as stupid as it sounds. I don't know if this is something from the games, but I highly doubt it. Kyo has biological Asian family members, but is white. This is the same kind of problem in "Dragonball: Evolution" and "The Last Airbender" for that matter. Just depict these people the ethnicity they should be. It's so boring and even for 89 minutes, it goes on too long with all these stupid action scenes. I guess I will stop criticizing "Sonic Underground" as that's still more faithful than some of these movies and at least it looks nice. 1/2*
lewiskendell "Wow, this just keeps getting better and better."The King of Fighters is more like the king of movies that have absolutely nothing to do with their source material. That's right, it even knocks Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li off its lofty perch, and almost reaches the heights of Super Mario Bros. You won't recognize any of the characters unless they mention their names, and even then you'll probably think you misheard them (prepare to choke on whatever you're eating or drinking when you're introduced to "Terry Bogard"). The story is incomprehensible, and even the characters freely and often admit that they have no idea what's going on. I wouldn't even know it was a King of Fighters movie if people didn't insist on saying "King of Fighters" as often and as awkwardly as possible. Any and all entertainment to be derived from this will come purely from how outright hilarious it is in its awfulness. If there was any kind of script written down beyond drunken scribbles on a stained bar napkin, I'd be shocked. The dialogue is terrible, the actors don't even seem to understand what they're saying (I know I didn't), and the fight scenes are adequate at best, inexplicable much more often, and until the end, they're usually over in a few seconds either way. On the positive side, the cinematography is occasionally good, there are frequent opportunities for laughs, and Maggie Q. is hot. Absolutely nothing like the character she's supposed to be portraying and so slender it looks like you'd blow her away by breathing on her too hard, but still hot. The chick playing Vice was pretty sexy, too. That's about it for the "pros" column.    If you can't appreciate massive levels of camp and unintentional humor, don't come near this. If you can, prepare to laugh and have a pretty great time mocking King of Fighters. It's so bad that it's wonderful. Until the end, that is. The last part of the movie is a boring, seemingly endless fight that basically grinds the fun to a halt. It becomes pretty obvious around that time that most of the $12 million budget was spent on CG fireballs. And of course, the door is left open for a sequel. Because the filmmakers knew we'd all be demanding that. This definitely is in no way, shape, form, or fashion a "good" movie, but it was a highly entertaining train-wreck...for a while. Fans of the games will be even more amused/horrified.
jasonred79 Choreography and fighting: HORIBBLE. All the punches hit air, and the fight scenes look like something scripted by 8 year olds. There is a scene of Rugal skating (randomly; whoever plays him looks very unbalanced on roller blades), and sort of bonking Vice and Mature with a hockey stick... which is clearly made of foam rubber. It's UNBEARABLE. Keeping to the videogames: Mai Shiranui is dating Iori Yagami. Rugal Bernstein on Rollerblades, as stated above. This has almost nothing to do with the KOF series. Acting: DISGUSTING. I'm not a very good actor, but I'm better than THAT. Special Effects: Sort of passable. But then again, my standards are pretty low. Let's see... if a bunch of high school kids photo-shopping is a 3, art school students photo-shopping is a 5, and Pixar is a 9... this is a 5.5. Storyline: What monstrosity have they pulled??? It makes little sense, is not engaging, the story wanders all over the place, the plot moves slowly, and they don't even give anything to the fanboys since they butchered the video game storyline.
kok_shangtang If you have seen Street Fighter (with Jean Claude van Damme) and you've thought it was the worst movie ever, then this will be the one to replace its place. The story is nothing near the game, most characters are not from the same nationality as in the game. The clothes (their trademarks) are different from the game and where are the special moves?? Each one of the characters had their trademark moves and specialities, most of them had like superpowers (fireballs, lighting etc.). As how the technology is now, it is easy to make those like in the game, so where is it? It's a very disappointing movie, I watched this one after watching Tekken, and Tekken is much better.
