joshuamc-20392 This film is disgusting with a Daisy Ridley look alike character
spongebob-10641 The Green Inferno is something special, it feels like a breath of fresh air when you see the huge number of all those supernatural horror films that come out. I am just going to come out and say that if you expecting a movie that has all the "essentials" of a great movie you are going to greatly disappointed! Are you people serious? Do you really expect great acting, a deep plot and well established characters from a cannibal movie? The shock value was pretty much the star of Cannibal Holocaust but no one today gives the movie backlash for that, but when it happens with this movie, people get outraged because they didn't get their OSCAR worthy horror film! This movie has wonderful cinematography, a decent if not always present story, and some pretty awesome gore! The first scene with the cannibals is one of the most intense and gruesome scenes I have seen in a LONG time! This movie is extremely entertaining, I was never bored at any time in the movie. Much like Hostel, it takes quite a while for the good stuff to start, but when it actually starts, it's so worth the wait! If I can say I had a complaint at all with the film, it's 2 things, the ant scene and the scene with the girl having diarrhea. The CGI on the ants was pretty bad, and the diarrhea scene was just unnecessary. Overall, if you are looking for the Oscar worthy film that many people here on IMDb were expecting to get, don't even bother watching it because you will be pretty angry! If you are just looking for some simple trashy entertainment, The Green Inferno will make you pretty happy! The Green Inferno is a fun experience and I give it a 9/10
porter_sheridan This movie will make you wince more from second hand embarrassment than from the gory scenes. I understand that this is not meant to be a dramatic, well acted thriller, but in the end I wasn't sure if this was just a satirical piece that is meant to poke fun of millennials and SJWs, or if they really thought that is what college kids are like today. I went into the Green Inferno excited because the idea is a classic and is something that could really be played with and experimental. A bunch of hippie, rich college students with no real world experience get dropped off in the middle of the Amazon with no survival instincts and are then captured by sadistic cannibals? That's something that you could really make horrifying. But unfortunately it really is never horrifying at all. I was more unsettled by 'the scene' in 13 Reasons Why than anything in this entire movie. Most of the actors where absolutely horrible. You start of with Lorenza as Justine, which was fine. Then you are introduced to Kaycee... oh my god she was unbearable. While I was watching I kept thinking, there is no way this women got paid to mumble and look completely uninterested for 20 minutes. Then I looked up the actress and only then did it make sense. Sky Ferreira. Shes not an actress. Shes a pretty good singer, but she did not belong in this movie, even if it was for only a section of the film. Watching Juni from SpyKids play as a stoner the whole movie was pretty hilarious. But everyone else was pretty sh't. It's pretty telling that the village people were the best actors, seeing as they were all were recruited from a small village and had never even seen a movie before. A couple good things: the cinematography was actually pretty good as well as the lighting. I thought the shots were great at certain times. I thought the message was pretty interesting. I'm sure there are a lot of young people that are defending causes that they have absolutely no idea what they are talking about. I liked that they probably taught a few people about FGM. Thats about it. A lot of bad things: zero complexity with the characters, the weird 'millennial lingo' scattered through out the movie ("so flip" almost made me turn the movie off), scenes with absolutely no purpose (Juni peeing in the forest scene), the fact that they conveniently wanted to mutilate Justine's genitals... considering she 'feels so strongly' about FGM (even though she learned about it like, a day before), the fact that the entire tribe got high from the weed in Amy's body and they then proceeded to have the munchies. The gore was not even that good. When the arrow hit Kara in the head I literally laughed out loud because it was so crappy looking and the fact that Daniel looked like he was a little wounded and swollen then proceeded to gasp 'kill me' was also hilarious. The ending is confusing and stupid. They just had to throw in a jump scare at the end for.... reasons? I could go on but it would be even longer than it already has been. Overall, this is a movie that should be watched as a comedy rather than a thriller or horror movie. There is nothing notable. Don't watch it if you like good movies.
tdrish First of all, I have no doubt in my mind Eli Roth is a talented man. I think his work has great potential to be, as kind words can put it, great entertainment. So why is it, every time, something is executed with his name branded to it, it's flawed every single time? Even Hostel was a bit uneven, although I will admit, it had great cinematography. The Green Inferno is almost impossible to watch. And when I say impossible to watch, do not take this warning lightly, because I don't say this about too many films. Some movies, I believe, are disturbing to watch, maybe unbareable to watch, and some are just plain mediocre to watch. When I say impossible, let me back up my theory and break this film down for you. It is divided into two parts. The first part, if you make it past the snooze fest, is long, boring, talking sequences...almost feels like a documentary. A few fun facts, give or take, but...THAT'S IT! It becomes clear that this is just a bunch of fat on the meat and potatoes of the film. And what is the meat and potatoes? Well, let's face it, you know what you're getting yourself into when you watch anything by Eli, so brace yourself for the second half...which is a parade of seemingly endless, unnecessary acts of violence and cannabilism. What I cannot get past, with this movie, is the fact that all the victims in the film, are axed off for a good cause. They are trying to save a rain forest! The meaning behind this sends mixed signals for me, which is...do we abandon our dreams of trying to do something for a good cause, because some insane tribe may try to eat my innards for breakfast? There is a disturbing scene where a girl opens her own jugglar vein to escape the madness. I don't know, I just did not like it. At all. In fact, I would safely assume that Eli Roth has burnt a bridge with me. The scene when a man holds up a severed head, I almost laughed at how phallic it looked...you can almost see the splinters on the wood...HA HA! Again, this is not for me, I think it's a gore hounds movie only.
