The Flyboys caught my eye because of all the raving reviews it got on the IMDb. This seemed too good to be true. A totally unknown brilliant movie that Hollywood forgot? A story about kids? But wow, what an incredible fun film this is... for both adults and children! What really works in this movie are all the moments in which the movie leaves the normal cliché story lines in order to do something refreshing. The first ten minutes, when we see how Jason and Kyle become friends, set the tone really. The new kid in town Kyle saves Jason from a bunch of bullies in a very believable but also funny and exciting way. These are real kids who'll have an adventure that will blow everybody away. All the performances are great. Not only the kid's. I very much liked Tom Sizemore. He's totally believable as the hard boiled criminal Angelo who is touched by the friendship between the two boys. There's a great scene in which Jason and Kyle play with toy guns in a luxurious playroom, not knowing that Angelo is watching. His observation reminds Angelo of all the good times he had with his kid brother (an also great Stephen Baldwin) - not knowing that Baldwin has betrayed him for money. J. Todd Adams - an actor I didn't know - does a very good job as the loser Lenny. His - let's say - character development is the key thing to the story. After an hour of watching you wonder when the movie will collapse. But fortunately it remains surprising and entertaining. At the end there's even an unexpected great stunt. It came as a total surprise to me. Great camera-work as well.In the land of big budgets, big computer effects and big disappointments The Flyboys is a big relief. This movie is by all standards very great entertainment. I'm looking forward to see more films by its director, Rocco DeVilliers!8/10

Its an OK movie, though I wouldn't encourage kids to watch it. It would make them delusional, thinking that some how dangerous situations can be escaped from that easily. Though the basic concept of standing up to wrong is morally good training for impressionable American kids.Good.Cliché cryptic nods in this direction is tiresome, though curiously observed. Indeed the MAFIA have taken over the USA, and YES Americans have a right royal fight in their hands to reclaim their country from the criminals, who treat Americans like stupid kids. The world hopes they succeed.A lot of the scenes seem improbable, but I suppose in a movie you can get away with such fantasy. In post 9/11 America carried out by the MAFIA, security is hot wired and the criminals in the movie wouldn't be able to wander around neighborhoods without the local law enforcement agents being in the scene more quickly......In terms of the characters, the villain wasn't villainous enough......he seemed more like a junkie than a harden criminal, who had stolen millions from his boss, and killed his partner in crime. The head MAFIA's performance was comical, playing with the kids like that, and crying like that. And its a bit of a cliché and racist to see yet another bunch of Italian Americans being portrayed as MAFIA. And Mr. Baldwin as Southern Italian? As a person who generally plays good guy roles I would have liked to have seen his role and character develop a lot longer into the film, even to the end. He has a certain screen presence.....good actor.Where are the true Tom Payne's to encourage and inspire Americans? Yes watch the movie but don't take the kids with you.

I can't believe how much this kind of movie impressed me. They don't make this kind of movies these days...right from the start till the very end it's all full-throttle action...and the thing that gets you is this : you don't expect much of it when you see the title and info, thinking "yeaahhh...another dumbass kids movie"...and though it has a few aspects that defy a realistic movie, but man, it becomes more and more engaging by the minute and keeps you focused with its breathtaking scenes and intensity...I mean, damn...this is a well-built movie people, good acting, good plot, strong moral values...and it's all done by simple means and lines, not like the majority of the movies you see now with great actors, boring scenarios and pathetic lines. I saw almost all the movies in the top 250 and much more, and I'm telling you, this one definitely belongs to the top. If you want the best true friendship based adventure movie of the moment, forget about the "Indy and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" category, which by the way is a disgrace to its kind, and give this one a go....satisfaction guaranteed ;)

I absolutely loved this movie. The mother is the mother I wish I had had and wish I had been. And the cast was wonderful and it flowed well and it has an ending that is fulfilling. I esp. loved the mother and Reilly McClendon. The flying scenes were very interesting and the story line had everything you could want. I esp. like that the bully gets what is coming to him. I had bullies as a little girl and would love to have had the skills and guts to take care of him like the boy does in this movie at the beginning. I got to meet the actress playing the mother and Reilly who is now 18. Both seemed like very nice people. And the writer/director was also very down to earth. I am awaiting the DVD release so I can buy this movie and watch it again.
