james higgins I don't know why so many family films have to be so stupid. They don't have to be, this could have been a really fun movie, but it misses nearly every opportunity it had. This is a silly mess, that is neither funny or entertaining. The cast isn't particularly good, Francesca Scorsone is downright awful. The special effects are okay, the period detail is a joke, like the costumes. The score is poor and seems to belong to a different movie entirely. Bad art direction and the sloppy editing certainly don't help. I think filmmakers should give kids a little more credit that giving them inferior movies like this. There are other similar movies that were done much better.
jwkenne First of all, there is no "real" story of Arthur except that there's about a 51% chance that someone called (not necessarily named) Arthur lived in the 5th century, and helped hold off the invasion of Britain by the Saxons for several generations. The rest of it is fiction, and maybe it all is. Some of it is from legends that were floating around the area of modern Ukraine hundreds of years before Arthur, but somehow got attached to him, but most of it is from the twelfth and thirteenth centuries, when every writer in Europe wanted to write a better Arthur story than the last guy. (Without copyright laws, no one can say what is "canon" and what is "fanfic".)"Modern guy finds himself in Camelot" is a very old idea; it's been done dozens of times, and a lot of the attempts have been dumber than this one. At least the young hero has some idea of what's happening to him, instead of being the brainless slacker I expected."The Excalibur Kid" is an agreeable time-waster at the worst.
tashatierney i know the movie is not based on the true story of Excalibur but that is what i think makes it a great movie you get to imagine what could have happened if someone else had pulled the sword from the stone and personally i think if they had made another movie about the true story i would not have every watched this movie because i am the kind of person who likes different things different from reality so to be this movie was excellent! but i guess everyone is entitled to their own opinion so i don't mind. also if you don't like my comment i really would appreciate you not responding in a rude manner because i would not do so to you.
Anaythea OK. This isn't a very good movie. First off, the main characters little brother who was maybe 13 years or so, didn't know what excalibur was. Then, the main character, who likes fencing and swordfighting, gets transported by mauve to the middle ages, where he assumes the position of King of England. It is so unreal, and it isn't based on the original story either. If you want the original story, watch the movie Merlin instead, it is much better. This is so fake and are based on characters who doesn't know anything ordinary people know about the middle ages.
