jadavix If it's known for anything at all, "The Eternal Evil of Asia" would be recognized for that one scene where a man's head turns into the head of a penis. This effect is actually distressingly lifelike; the special effects people really went to town on making it look real, or as real as such a bizarre effect could look, anyway.Aside from that the movie has little going for it. It has the typical Category III foible - in fact it might be a common problem with Hong Kong movies in general - the plot is really quite simple, but is told in a confusing way. Here's the gist of it: the movie is basically about curses placed on some Kongkongese types by magicians in Thailand. To the Asians, Thailand seems to be what Transylvania is to the Europeans; ie. a land of supernatural and mystique. The movie begins with a largely unrelated sequence where a crabby father is killed by a curse put on him by his little son. The movie then jumps to the real protagonists: the stunningly beautiful Ellen Chan and her boyfriend, who are trying to consummate their relationship, but can't, as the man seems to be blocked by, I don't know... a curse?Ellen thinks her beau cheated on her when he went to Thailand with his buddies, but he swears up and down that that ain't so... the movie makes us wait until almost an hour into its runtime before showing us, confusingly, what really happened: the guy's buddies pretended to be him so that they could get a young girl into bed for a sex session - the movie's only proper sex scene - and she put a curse on him as revenge. Luckily, the Ellen Chan character knows a 'good witch' who works with her at a hair salon. Seriously. So the stage is set for a showdown between the good witch and the bad magician, which, like the rest of the movie, turns out to not make a whole lot of visual sense. There is a scene at the end of the movie where Ellen Chan and her cursed partner try to have sex without touching each other. Quite a bit of thrusting and some tantalising peeks at Chan's breasts ensue. There is also a scene where a guy gets hungry, and starts chewing someone's fingers. The movie cuts away, and then cuts back, and shows that he has skeletonised the person's whole arm. This is really the only violent scene in the whole movie."The Eternal Evil of Asia" is a surprisingly tame affair for a Category III flick, but it is plenty crazy, so if that's what you're after... watch out for the penis head.
EVOL666 ETERNAL EVIL OF ASIA is a fun one. Combining some of the best qualities of both the HK CATIII films and the earlier 80's HK sorcery films - EEOA is a wild ride. As expected - a good bit of gore, sleazy sex and rape, a little bit of creepiness, and some insane hilarity that has to be seen to be believed. And of course - don't forget the ridiculously inept subtitling...Four guys from Hong Kong (reffered to by foreigners in the film as HONGKIES - I almost p!ssed myself the first time I saw THAT...) take a trip to Thailand. One of the guys (named Bon) is engaged to one of the other guy's sister. They go to a sleazy brothel and get chased out, and in search of shelter, the four party-animals end up at a wizard's house. The wizard tells them they have to stay and witness a battle between himself and a husband-and-wife duo wizard team. One of the guys doesn't buy all the wizard talk - so the wizard turns his head into a giant cock (no joke...) which converts the other guys into believers with a quickness. The wizard fights and wins his duel (which is one of the funniest "battle" scenes ever, and includes some high-flying kung-fu sex techniques a la A Chinese TORTURE CHAMBER STORY...) with Bon's help, and to show his appreciation, Mr. Wizard asks the guys to stay and hang out for a bit (and also changes Dick-Head's head back to normal...). There they meet Mr. Wizards hottie sister, who ends up having a crush on Bon - but Bon ain't havin' no parts of it because of his fiancée (who's a fine piece o' ass as well...). She convinces Mr. Wizard to mix up a "love potion" to make Bon fall in love with her, but this whole scheme back-fires horrendously and ends up with her dead. Mr. Wizard is none-too-thrilled about this - and seeks revenge on all involved in his sister's death...not as "strong" in terms of "shock value" as some of the more notable CATIII entries, but EEOA is still one of the better and more "fun" examples. A decent amount of campy gore, plenty of nudity (including some full-frontal), and a pretty coherent storyline make this one definitely worth checking out. Lily Chung (of RED TO KILL, DAUGHTER OF DARKNESS, and other CATIII "classics" fame) is also in this one as a "good witch" - and I've dug her a lot ever since my first viewing of RED TO KILL. Definitely recommended for the genre fan...8.5/10
InzyWimzy Even though I was perplexed by the title, this film is a unique mix of Hong Kong horror and comedy!!Ellen Chan is a hotty!! You can't really blame Laimi, can you?? I cannot describe this movie to do it justice, but DON'T insult a wizard with good hearing (heh heh). There's spellcasting, hexes, and some grisly death scenes, but it's not too shocking or gory to lose sleep over. The magic duel is unique and shows a new meaning of "tag team". The finale is the highlight of the film and depicts a battle I've never seen before in cinema.Watch this....espeically for Ellen!!
emrio this is an over the top hk. horror/enchanter type film with not a little dark humour and a wonderful erotic ending which you should not take your auntie to see.Its an original, which i dont think, was ever meant to go outside asia. Not the best hk. horror but still rather good. For something different yes its worth a watch and a great unusual ending.
