"The disaster artist" isn't just a tribute to the worst movie of all time "The Room" but it is also an informative movie about filmaking and friendship. James Franco's performance is amazing, he performs Tommy Wiseau in such perfect way (both appearance and attitude). The movie has also a lot of funny moments and they all happened for real. In this movie, Tommy Wiseau is portrayed as a crazy inept actor (and director and writer) way too proud of himself which hardly tries to realize his dream to become a prestigious and beloved actor. The story of friendship between Tommy and Greg becomes also very touching, especially in the end. It's quite impossible watching this movie without smiling or crying. I think you don't have to watch the movie "The Room" in order to enjoy this piece of art.Final score 7.3/10 (good).
"The disaster artist" tells the birth of a legend and a touching story of friendship. If you watched "The Room" then watch this movie immediately. You won't regret it.

I was surprised to Jacki Weaver in this film but she was brilliant playing Carolyn/Claudette in this film. James Franco would have definitely been a front-runner for an Academy Award for Best Actor. He directed, produced and acted as Tommy Wiseau, an aspiring actor from unknown background. Greg Sestero befriends him in San Francisco and they go South to Los Angeles, California. Tommy's background is a mystery even to Greg. The film is based on the actual room, "The Room," which became a cult hit. Tommy Wiseau is not an easy character but James Franco brings out the best and worst in him that you actually feel sorry for this man. Granted, Tommy's behavior on the set is quite troubling. He can be abusive and unforgiving. While "The Room" was never an Academy Award quality style film, Tommy and Greg set to make out a film which became a cult classic around the world. That is quite an accomplishment. I have to see "The Room" now though. The film celebrates film-making from the ultimate outsiders like Tommy and Greg who proved that they can break through.

While I can't really claim to be much of a fan of "The Room", and only having seen it once, then it was actually good fun to watch "The Disaster Artist". And it was fun to get a deeper insight into how "The Room" came around to be, and have a look at whom the people were behind the characters.James Franco was doing an amazing job as Tommy Wiseau, and his performance really carried the movie quite nicely. Actually, I will say that James Franco really nailed the performance here and captured the essence, mannerisms and mimics of Tommy Wiseau phenomenally well.I am sure that "The Disaster Artist" will do quite well, and add to the cult legacy that is "The Room".Aside from James Franco then they also had a great ensemble of supporting cast and cameo appearances which added spice to the movie. While "The Disaster Artist" certainly was entertaining, I doubt that I will return to watch it a second time. Why? Well, the movie just didn't seem to have enough contents to support multiple viewings.

A story that had to be told. I applaud Franco for doing this. He was ok in this role and I think he really adored playing this character but it was tough to play it and while he obviously has the skill and won for his portrayal I would have loved to see the actual character play himself. Some of the accent was off and seemed amateur at times. The make up was great but Franco didn't come off as believable all the time. But this movie was really well done on so many levels. These so called weirdos who show up in Hollywood inadvertently serve a purpose not for everyone but there are people who get this unrequited dream and the necessity to live it in denial as an equal alternative to accepting you don't or shouldn't be wasting your time. He certainly wasted a lot of money.
