TheLittleSongbird There are better dinosaur movies out there than The Dinosaur Project(naming them though will be unfair) but there are definitely far worse like almost every dino movie released by SyFy or The Asylum. The Dinosaur Project is far from perfect or great, but it was entertaining and did have some things it did well. Is it better than the IMDb and what has been said about it? I think so. Some of the camera work did have a dizzying effect with some shakiness that at times didn't add anything. The acting is a case of it being acceptable in parts, Richard Dillane is very good actually and while underused so is Natasha Loring, most of the time actually it was the case, but being rather cheesy in other parts especially the last act. Matt Kane does look wooden and Peter Brooke wildly overplays. The villain was not written at all well, there was no real point to him(the dinosaurs were conflict enough) and some of his scenes belonged somewhere else altogether, while the last act got far too silly and stretched credibility to the limit. However, the scenery is beautiful and made good use of and the dinosaur effects are surprisingly good. The dinosaurs themselves are very believable and creepy and have more colourful personalities than the human characters, agreed about that lovely moment with the baby Ceratosaurussen. Wish we could have seen more of them. Some camera work is inventive, the music is jaunty and the movie does have a snappy script that doesn't pad things out too much and has some light-hearted humour that sounds easy rather than awkward. The story goes at breakneck speed and is mostly enjoyably fun with the attacks having some genuine tension. On the whole, a fun film that could have been executed better but is nowhere near as bad as some have cited to be. 6/10 Bethany Cox
Lissitsky Which is hard to believe of its director. However, if your familiar with Conan Doyles Lost World and Michael Crichtons Congo then you will have to be happy with the fact that its a very good enthusiastic rehash. Except that the unrestrained use of hand-held camera work is so annoying. Still this is the only credible Dinosaur movie since Jurassic Park 1 so if - like me - you feel the dearth it is definitely worth your time. In fact I hope they make a sequel (with normal camera work). Richard Dillane is a more credible Indian Jones than Harrison Ford and the location Scenery is excellent. Why IMDb discriminates against concise reviews is beyond me, there's surely enough waffle in the world already
Hamish Hall When I sat down to watch The Dinosaur Project, I didn't have high hopes (as I'd seen a couple of unfavourable reviews), but what I got was 80 minutes of interesting and exciting adventure. A team of explorers sets off on an expedition into the heart of Africa to verify strange reports of mysterious sightings. It's shot using a variety of hand-held cameras akin to Cloverfield, The Blair Witch Project and Paranormal Activity. The acting and certain CGI creatures (the little bat-dino things looked great) are a bit sub-par, but I easily looked over these flaws to enjoy the interesting idea that this film toys with. There are your typical action and adventure scenes that you would expect from a movie full of carnivorous dinosaurs. Some parts of the film feel disjointed, and you're left wondering why the produces left those parts in (the antagonist especially), but otherwise it's surprisingly suspenseful and even heartwarming during certain scenes. I personally enjoyed it. Don't start watching the movie and expect to see something as good as Jurassic Park, rather enjoy it for what it is: A good adventure film that is a bit rough around the edges.
Dillon Maki I honestly think this was a great movie. Great story line and everything. The only thing that bugged me however, was the way they had the actors use cameras, THE ENTIRE MOVIE. It was alright for a while but got really annoying about half way through the movie. Especially when you can't see whats going on at all. I hope they come out with a sequel just make it so they only use self cameras once in a while or something. I love dinosaur movies and I wish they'd make more. This could also be made into a TV series if they wanted. But anyways its worth seeing just gets a little annoying after a while. If they come out with another Ill be getting it right away :P
