buiger I watched this movie for the first time over 30 years after it was produced. Considering its age, the fact that it is essentially a Chuck Norris film (whom I really never liked), and the numerous clichées in the premise and story-line, this motion picture was a rather pleasant surprise. It was decently scripted, decently acted (except for Mr. Norris, of course) and well filmed. Even the cheesy special effects don't take away too much from the overall viewing experience.Do not misunderstand me, this is no masterpiece by a long shot, but it definitely makes for some decent escapist entertainment on an evening with nothing much better to do. Definitely above average.
adonis98-743-186503 A 707 aircraft jetliner on its way from Athens to Rome and then to New York City is hijacked by Lebanese terrorists. The terrorists demand that the pilot take them to Beirut. What the terrorists don't realize is that an elite team of commandoes led by Major McCoy (Norris) and by Colonel Alexander (Marvin) as been called into service to eliminate all terrorists on the jetliner and who's involved in the hijacking and try to retake the plane before the terrorists kill all the hostages. The Delta Force is a film that 80's Action Fans will definitely enjoy and although it starts pretty slow and full with tension inside an aircraft and don't get me wrong both the 2nd and 3rd act were pretty great but i think the 1st act built a lot of tension and had some pretty good moments but overall this is a great film with nice performances by Chuck Norris, Lee Marvin, Robert Forster and George Kennedy, the soundtrack by Alan Silvestri is terrific and something that i can listen all day and the action itself was pretty excellent especially the sequences with Chuck Norris riding the motorcycle and in my opinion it was a pretty great film and i'm going to give it an A
Predrag "Delta Force" is a classic of the Action/Adventure genre. Karate champ Chuck Norris has been in some pretty cool movies, like "Lone Wolf McQuade" and "Missing in Action," but this is probably his best one. The plot is nothing creative: Norris plays a commando on the trail of a group of Palestinian terrorists who have hijacked a plane. What makes the story so great is that it is grounded in reality. Although the film does become something of a conventional shoot-'em-up in its final forty minutes, The Delta Force turns out to be far better than most films of its ilk.The musical score is fantastic, I love it. It appears when Norris appears and is totally original and fits the movie perfectly. It is decent acted but overall good directed. Even granting the PC point, this film portrays it's American Jews as Lower-East Side, Holocaust-obsessed yentas. At least the Cannon Group gave them equal time. But to be fair, it's not like this is the first Hollywood movie to take liberties with reality... if it's reality you want, there's the evening news. If it's terrorist ass kicking you want, then there's always Delta Force.Overall rating: 7 out of 10.
Leofwine_draca At first, I had to remind myself that I was watching a Cannon movie. After all, this studio were notorious for making some of the cheesiest, over the top action romps of the 1980s, and THE DELTA FORCE is nothing of the kind. Instead, it's a taut and suspenseful aeroplane hostage movie that has more in common with the likes of RAID ON ENTEBBE than INVASION USA.THE DELTA FORCE stars a near unrecognisable Robert Forster (complete with brown contacts) as an Arab terrorist who holds a group of wealthy Jews hostage in a politically motivated act of terrorism. In a throwback to the disaster movies of the '70s, the hostages are played by an all-star cast including George Kennedy, Martin Balsam, Bo Svenson, Shelley Winters, Joey Bishop and Susan Strasberg. The stuff on the plane is fantastic, with the threat of violence hanging heavy in the air and lots of tense stand-offs.Then things change completely for the film's second hour, where it becomes the kind of cheesy action romp that you expected from the outset. This second half is full of Chuck Norris and his team (including a grumpy Lee Marvin and a briefly-seen Steve James) shooting bad guys, blowing stuff up and rescuing people. It's the sort of action that contains motorbikes fitted with rocket launchers and all manner of similar nonsense. That's not to say it's not entertaining, but it is at odds with the serious first half of the film. Norris and Norris alone would return for the equally cheesy sequel.
