Fallen Eye Why did that technician (Richard Jenkins) say to Dana; "It's you", and who was he asking her to kill? Surly he's not talking about the "he" attached to that massive hand. What makes Cabin In The Woods fresh, is just how it juxtaposed the mayhem with the habitual day-to-day, even though this particular day-to-day is pretty, unpretty.Somehow, going from just 5 normal millennials on their way to an enjoyable getaway from the city, to gods, magic, zombies and the world ending, felt as seamless as a jump like that can be, I suppose. In 1 hour, Cabin In The Woods did what The Fast and Furious franchise needed 15 years to accomplish, (Dom and team going from stealing appliances, to saving the world and stopping "World War III") and it's still arguable if whether or not it was accomplished plausibly.I also feel like this movie was giving major nods to a plethora of age old monsters and demons, and that felt like an awesome touch. The elevator scene seriously made me wish that 1; This film had a bigger budget, because all those monstrosities coming together like that was just, so much fun and 2. Yeah, that this film was part of a multiverse (I guess we are in that "age" now, and Joss assisted in creating monsters like us).Towards the end however, the film started falling a little flat, and becoming less charming. Events started feeling too coincidental in too many a consecutive sequence, but seeing killer unicorns was pretty cool; all that was missing was the deadliest monster of all, Cupid. 7/10.P.S. Chris Hemsworth's American accent is abysmal. I still like him though, but seriously, it's terrible.
birdhead73 I had heard this was a good movie but didn't know much about it. I had just expected a typical horror slasher movie in which dumb teens/ young adults go to an isolated place to smoke dope and fornicate and jet killed one by one. That does happen but everything that happens in between is completely off the wall.I read someone eles' review that said this movie is predicable. B.S.! One can only predict what the writers have purposefully fashioned for prediction. That's what makes this so good because it you think you know what's happening and then BAM! Something completely unexpected. It is cheesy, campy, and gorey all for reason. Other reviews have said the acting was bad. Wrong, wrong, wrong. The acting style is to be in kind with other teen slasher movies. On top of the unique storyline and scare moments, the movie is hilarious. You just gotta see it to believe it. I'm made that it took me so long to watch it.
mb1456 Cabin in the Woods is like a horror comedy. There's lot of humor amidst some of the gore. It doesn't take itself seriously yet the horror is well done and the effects are first rate too. In a genre like this, one would expect lot of jump scare scenes but this movie doesn't offer much of that. Instead it offers a variety of hideous creatures, zombies or spooky beings(an army of nightmares..) and also nice suspense. The entertainment is especially towards the final scenes when all of these monsters go out on their bloodthirsty rampage. It was comical yet a satisfying feast of mutilation & slaughter :) But the gore is also not too graphic in my opinion, they keep a balance because I think the intent is to simply entertain at the end of the day. The cast performance is good especially by Fran Kranz as the constantly "high" Marty. Wish there were more scenes of Thor, I mean Chris Hemsworth in this movie but does his support role well enough. The only flaws I could think of are the final scenes again. Although it was fun to watch all the monsters on the loose, it felt as though there were too much of these things running all over the place and that messed up the spook factor a bit. I also didn't like how it ends - how the "ancient ones" reveal themselves in the end was a disappointment.Verdict - a typical slasher, horror movie that blends well with your popcorn & soda, don't expect too much that's all..
myaquantum It is supposed to be a parody but it is not funny. It is supposed to be a horror and it is not scary. It is supposed to be a fantasy.. well i guess that is the only part they got right. It looks more like a copy cat than a parody. Many effects are cheesy. Acting is not the worst but it's close. It is a complete disaster.
