John Armistead I purchased the movie, 'The Bounty Hunter', specifically to investigate the performance latitude of Gerald Butler. I am doing preliminary casting on a "more-than-just-for-entertainment" movie that I have authored. My being from a family of motion picture exhibitors—beginning with Edison's invention of the Nickelodeon in the late 1800s—makes me an expert at evaluating audience preferences, and knowing what aspects of films cause the most positive effects. The typical movies being produced, today, are a waste of my time. If I haven't rated a movie "watchable" in the first three minutes, I shut it off. I had seen Butler in the movie, 'Olympus Has Fallen', about the Roman occupation of Britain, and was most impressed by his acting. He "beefed up" for a subsequent role. That would disqualify him for my movie if being "beefed up" is his norm.I began watching the Andy Tennant directed movie, without knowing anything about that man's work. As is my norm, I was poised to turn off my TV. In a supreme no-no-of-all-no-no's, in the first minute… there was a 'flashback' to one year earlier. In disbelief, I continued watching my mandatory three minutes. Surprisingly, the writing, acting and directing was so good I couldn't turn off the TV, nor did I even consider doing so.For me, a typical movie is worth watching if there is a five minute "memorable" scene that can be played over and over in one's mind, if not on the DVD. A huge positive of this movie is how well-paced the scenes are. There was no "wasted" camera time on anything not contributing to the generally logical plot development. Unfortunately, I'm giving this movie just three stars, because the continued fast pace violated the laws of probability. To wit: There were about twice more plot crises than could possibly be in the lives of "normal" people, like Butler and Aniston got so in-the-groove to play. The effect of the latter is like having a fight scene that would normally end within the first minute, but in the "movie" that scene lasts ten minutes… because audiences like (sick, "sic") fight scenes. Tennant and the script writer are yielding to the notion that people have very short attention spans. So they went from believable to unbelievable after the first 30 minutes of the film. What should have been done would be to get the primary characters identified in the crucial first three minutes, then to artfully change the pace to show fun-to-watch real life aspects. By doing that, a movie can be made long enough without having to resort to more bullets being fired or chases being made than any "normal" human being could "chance" to be involved in.Gerald Butler is now on my "A" list. And Jennifer Aniston—playing on her very developed "Friends" persona—salvages herself from her being in "anything" just to stay on the front pages of the tabloids.Production value wise, use fewer two-camera shots. Also avoid over-editing that makes the viewer feel like they are… "watching a tennis match". Like me, watch the first half hour, fast forward to the end to see how love triumphs in the end. This DVD is a keeper!NoEinstein
hjahangiry A wanted felon and a bounty hunter, an ex-wife and an ex-husband. A couple divorced and resentful of one another are drawn together after the husband becomes hunter and the wife huntee. Nicole Hurley (Jennifer Aniston) who works in the Daily News is a wanted felon for assaulting police, grazing an NYPD police horse with her car when she was in hurry for a press conference. She was on bail and had a trial meeting but four minutes before the trial begins, she gets a call for an emergency meeting for her story of a suicide and by ditching her lawyer, she goes to her appointment which leads the judge to order bench warrant on her case. Milo Boyd (Gerard Butler) is an ex-cop for police force who was fired for neglect of duty and now works with the police department as a bounty hunter but himself is looked for by a retail mob called Irene for owing her money. Milo gets offered five grand to find his ex-wife and take her to the jail. Nicole works on the suicide story of Walter Lilly, an employee of police storage department, who according to a police report signed by Bobby has jumped off a building but she suspects that it was a murder because Walter was afraid of height and he was riven to the street on his head which apparently in suicide cases they fall on their feet. Bobby, their mutual friend, is Milo's ex-colleague at police department who walked Nicole down the aisle at her wedding! He bails out Milo when he gets arrested for setting fire in the 4th of July parade in a bounty hunting chase. Milo finds Nicole at her exact place in a horse race stadium in Atlanta City based on his knowing of her and her lucky letter, "D", which surprises her. "Who has a lucky letter?" he mocks her. Their running and chasings later involve other people as well as Irene's men and Bobby's golf pal who is his other colleague in force. Nicole is Milo's good luck and temptation lock. She can easily trick her to gamble by tempting him and her blow on his dices can bring him good luck and when it (her blowing) eliminated, he seems to be losing. The magnet between them is so powerful that despite pushing each other away, some inner more powerful force draws them back together. In spite of their taking the blame at the Cupid's Cabin where they used to spend their anniversaries, we never exactly know why they split up though there are small mentions in dialogues during the movie, but we know for sure that they were madly in love before they got divorced. The resentful humor between Milo and Nicole has clear signs of their history which doesn't seem to lack love. Gerard Butler's prior performance in The Ugly Truth (2009) along with Katherine Heigl finds a sequel in The Bounty Hunter (2010) with co-acting of non-aging Jennifer Aniston who for herself has a long term of comedy-romance performance e.g. the NBC TV show Friends (1994-2004) which is a perfect example of her tireless performance carrier in this genre. They both have pulled off their roles so perfectly that sometimes exceeds the movie itself as if the other events happening around them doesn't matter. Movie itself is an action comedy-romance which has been somehow successful in terms of directing, screenplay, and editing. But what are the most successful and high point for this feature are the sound tracks and the score music which combining with pictures at some points illustrate the whole scenes alone needless to any dialogue. At the end The Bounty Hunter is an amusing movie which can bring joy at the time of watching it and can make your day after hours of work.
db-beurylaw The opening sequence was enough to tell you that you were in for a lazy, poorly thought out movie. IN the opening scene Gerard Butler is driving his car when suddenly smoke comes out of the trunk. He stops and opens the trunk lid and Jennifer Aniston jumps out holding a road flare. It turns out that Butler arrested Aniston and locked her in the trunk. In an effort to escape she found the road flare and ignited it. Really? If you ever have the misfortune of being kidnapped and locked in a trunk and you happen to find a road flare, whatever you do, do not light the damn thing. Several things could have happened, all of them resulting in Aniston's death. If you are in a car trunk, one thing that you are in short supply of is air. Lighting a fire would quickly use up all of the air and she would suffocate. It would also get extremely hot, like 300 degrees or so. You would have baked Aniston. Finally, that vehicle, like nearly all cars has the gas tank next to the trunk compartment. The gas follows out towards the engine through rubber tubes. The flare would have probably melted these rubber tubes and flooded the trunk with gasoline. If she was lucky, she would have blown up which would have been so preferable to burning up alive or suffocating. The point is that they filmmakers thought this little bit was clever and entertaining. But it had the opposite effect. Sort of like the entire movie. They though it was clever and cute, when it was dumb and not thought out. Don't feed us crap like this and act like you thought of something smart. It was incredibly done. One more thought Jennifer Aniston acts exactly the same in every single movie. Why do they bother giving her a different name. It should be Rachel Green all the time.
RobTheRedHead Gerard Butler and Jennifer Aniston stink to high Heaven in this seriously awful film.I got as far as them talking at Cupid's Cabin and by then I felt my life slipping away and had to turn it off or I would have started self-harming.The acting, direction, script, plot, in fact everything was s-h-i-t-e! Neither Aniston and Butler have on screen charisma and together it was a toxic mix.It was like watching a Film Making for Dummies 1-0-1. Predictable. Cliché.One of the worst films I have seen.
