The third instalment in the series brings you Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines. Schwarzenegger returns as the T-850, as he battles the T-X whilst trying to stop Judgment Day from happening, along with teaming up with an adult John Connor. It brings interesting depth and the hype is still enjoyable, but it does not show the excitement and thrilling enjoyment from its two previous instalments. Still an enjoyable movie to watch, Arni still carry's the titular character into groundbreaking heights.

Schwarzenegger is great and funny, but the guy who played John Conner was a bad casting choice. I hate to be negative, but I'm not sure what his appeal was to the casting directors - his acting skills were subpar (didn't seem emotionally connected enough at times) and he seemed sooo different from the younger John Conner they had in the second Terminator movie. I didn't find it believable that they were supposed to be the same person. There'd been all this build up to "the great John Conner" over the previous Terminator movies, but I was so underwhelmed by this actor. Linda Hamilton's absence is also greatly felt. Maybe she could've helped carry the movie - Clare Danes and the guy who played John Conner just can't pull it off in my opinion. Schwarzenegger is perfect for comedic effect, but he's not really ever the protagonist in these movies in the traditional sense, even though the series was named for his character. He was the best part of this movie; it's saving grace, I guess. Overall, it's an okay movie, but the first two Terminator movies were way better.

Terminator 3: Rise Of The Machines has a fresh brand new plot with a different bad guy, the bad guy doesn't have that much screen time which makes the story even more powerful. The pacing of the story is fine, this movie is only about an hour and forty four minutes so it is very fast-paced and the editing is done just right. The first movie is what it is, the sequel is just another replica of the first one only with a few new characters, whereas this one is completely different and it sets itself apart from the previous movies, Terminator 2 could have been an extended version of the first one, can't really tell them apart.Rise Of The Machines has tons of action scenes and some great on the road chase scenes.Performances are never dull, the dialogue is very good, not much swearing at all compared to the second one.

There are many problems with "Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines". Despite those problems, however, it manages to remain an okay flick. It's just disappointing, considering it could have been oh so much more. For a basic plot summary, "T3" sees a future in which Judgment Day has not yet happened because of the successful events of T2. John Connor (Nick Stahl) is a vagrant, moving from place to place in search of relief for his nightmares about a potential apocalypse. In 2004, a female Terminator (Kristanna Loken) comes hunting for John and a number of people who become his future associates. So does Judgment Day still happen? That will be up to John, Kate Brewster (Claire Danes), and the classic Terminator model (Arnold Schwarzenegger) to figure out.The good thing I have to say about this film is that it uses the Skynet plot line that probably should have been used in T2 (I never liked the Cyberdyne angle of that film). For the first time in this series, viewers get to see what Skynet would have been like in its initial stages, and that was pretty cool. The big and obviously problem, however, is that "T3" lacks the gravitas that the other films before it so easily possessed. This was probably due to James Cameron removing himself from the director's chair. This feels too much like a "tacked on" film that was kind of making things up as it went along. They stumbled upon an interesting Skynet plot, but other than that it is kind of a mess. Too many explosions and gun battles, as that isn't what this series is really about.Truth be told, I can only give this movie three stars because I like the sci-fi and time-travel aspects of the franchise. Basically, I want it to be better than it really is. It is more of a 2.5 or maybe even 2-star effort. Sad, as such a better story could have been told.
