About half-way through watching Take Me Home - and expecting to at any minute start becoming disappointed - I began marveling that such a good romantic comedy could have been ignored by the major distribution companies. But even with that self-inflicted distraction, I can say that my enjoyment of Take Me Home pretty much stayed high from beginning to end. Certainly the chemistry of the two main characters can be explained to a degree by the fact that they are husband and wife. But that does not explain the quality of the other performances or the outstanding direction by Sam Jaeger. Comedy is difficult and I cannot remember the last time I enjoyed a romantic comedy as much as I enjoyed Take Me home. That this movie did not hit the US box offices is a sad statement about the state of the industry. Amber Jaeger was simply outstanding as Claire. But all other things being equal, had Take Me Home been made twenty years earlier with Sandra Bullock in the lead female role, it would have been appreciated for how good it really is.

The chemistry between the two main characters is what really makes this movie work but, also, their story arc. The movie goes for - and we get - a deeper sense of the "real" characters and doesn't go for some easy, cheap laughs that you might find in a similar plot. There is an especially wonderful scene (no spoiler here) where Tom so wants to change and he makes a promise to Claire and she says the most simple, perfect, and heart-felt line of the movie. Simply; "I know." Also, it's really easy in these kind of movies to have stereotypes; yet, and every single character - even the ones with very limited screen time - have the sense of a deepness about them. It really is a wonderfully realized movie. Scott F. - Pacifica, CA

It's a romantic comedy plus a road trip with some family drama. We've all seen a hundred of them. Which means it's all about the execution. And, sadly, that execution is only adequate, not great. The acting, the cinematography, even the story are fine. What's not fine is that, like too many movies, the director and/or scriptwriter treat us like idiots who have never seen a movie before. The first fifteen minutes are a waste of time, setting up the characters in a way that's utterly unnecessary; and there are a few similar such moments through the rest of the movie where we are told the obvious. Do yourself a favor and double your enjoyment of the movie. Skip through the first fifteen minutes in a minute or less, watching a scene here, 20 seconds there; jump in res media at 15 minutes, and experience the movie like an adult who doesn't need to be spoon fed genre conventions as though they're an audience member at L'Arrivée d'un train en gare de La Ciotat.

I thought this was an all-around cute movie. The main characters were likable and funny without trying too hard. "Thom" was very likable from the beginning and throughout. "Claire" had some great moments in the more dramatic scenes where her acting was great. The plot was interesting and engaging. There wasn't anything overly creative or unique about the plot or writing, and some parts were a little slow, but I enjoyed it. For an independent movie written, directed, and starred in by Sam Jaeger, it was very well-done. I think if a few creative twists were thrown in that have never been done before, that would've taken the film up a few notches (in my opinion) and made it less predictable. Overall, my husband and I enjoyed this movie and liked the characters.
