It takes real guts to mock something, and simultaneously celebrate it. In this 'ere movie, we have spoofy election broadcasts that rip on political correctness: immigration, gay rights, abortion... that kind of thing. But on the other hand, Costner's daughter's boyfriend is black. His love interest is a Latino. And as for the slushfest finale when both presidential candidates discover their conscience, and Costner becomes 'the voice of the people' with bags and bags of mail from disadvantaged Americans, YERK is all I can say. That's the sound of me with my hand down my throat trying to stop breakfast from making an unwelcome reappearance. If you must know.Still, I don't wanna rag too much on Swing Vote... It's pleasant to watch, with a big cast giving it their all, and some shreds of intelligent humour poking out from the foliage. Don't expect any big guffaws, but we are occasionally reminded of the levels of desperation parties will resort to just to get a seat in power. This isn't exactly big news though, so if you're looking for sparkling political repartee along the lines of Yes Minister, go elsewhere. If you fancy a relatively heartwarming (if somewhat predictable) almost two hours in the company of a good ol' boy and his charming daughter, then step right up. 6/10

Even for a movie Swing Vote has a absurd premise. The idea that our democratic voting system can be founded on one man voting is incredibly ludicrous even for the plot line of a movie. Thankfully the movie decides to try and be more then just Kevin Costner (ugh) farting around talking with politicians. The movie instead focuses on his relationship with his daughter. It tries to show the common man's focus on politics. Despite this idea though the movie still doesn't work. The family moments come across as being too cheesy and the movie isn't able to get across it's bizarre premise. Although the movie was better then I expected it to be (which isn't saying much) it's not worth watching. It's a mediocre Costner movie but if you are a fan of his then you've seen worse by him (like The Postman)

A wonderful movie that works well on at least two main levels- the first level humorously depicting the intense pressure on political figures in the American race to the Presidency and the lengths the fictional front runners go trying to persuade the 'last' voter (who could really care less) to ultimately choose the winner of the Presidential Election. The second level, the entirely believable and magnificently acted interaction between Costner's redneck 'last' voter and his smart, thoroughly wonderful daughter. What a pleasure to see such a wonderful performance from a rising young star and the solid performance equally matched by Costner in his. Ms.Carroll dances with delicate emotional issues in an entirely natural way perfectly evoking in the audience the awkward intensity of adolescence. We laughed with her and felt the emotional intensity of the film's sadder moments through her eyes with perfect clarity. A truly great performance in one so young.Kevin Costner's relationship to the tiny female character was brilliantly performed though (without spoiling the movie if you missed it) tended to invoke a feelings of disapproving anger for his character's apathetic acceptance of his personal faults and general low life stupidity. The audience squirms in their seats wondering how he could do this when he shares a life with his ever so smart, endearing, supportive young daughter? The final sequence; the actual conclusion toward which all this pathos and humorous counterpoint is leading, sets a bout a chain of events that would make a Disney movie director proud. The feel good ending was an absolute dramatic necessity however and I for one am pleased to report that it left me totally satisfied. This movie is highly underrated and I highly recommend it to anyone wanting to experience a movie with a solid plot, excellent acting by all and a host of extras. The music was wonderfully chosen as well. In short, what are you waiting for? Go see this movie.

Ernest "Bud" Johnson, a man of the people, a Good Third Party Independent completely uninformed as to what is going on outside of his own little world of the little town of Texico New Mexico, with a socially conscious daughter Molly , caught up in the Political scene by his innocent daughter, registering him to vote on election day. A strange series of coincidences leaves the classic swing state of New Mexico EVENLY Spilt 50 50 in the popular vote with Bud Johnsons vote the deciding vote , the next ten days to two weeks are the classic roller coaster political ride that neither he nor his daughter had expected. as every debate needs a moderator , KennedY Nixon 1960 to the present, so none is better to moderate than a good man of the people who realizes his faults in life and bellies up to the podium to moderate.
