Horst in Translation ([email protected]) "Studie Nr. 9" or "Study No. 9" is another one of German filmmaker Oskar Fischinger's films from the "Study" series. This one has sound, but no color yet. We hear a classical piece and see the shapes and structures in this 3-minute black-and-white film move to the rhythm as if they are dancing really. I must say I like most of Fischinger's other work better. In terms of the animation, this is actually really weak for a 1930s short film i must say and this music, well.. it is not his achievement. I also somehow do not really like the idea of relying on another artist's work and create a film around it. The visual side (maybe the story) should always be the core of a film and this one here would not have existed without Brahms' work. I think if you decide to just listen to the record, you will have at least the same experience as from watching this film, maybe an even better one. I don't recommend the watch.
