Namra Syed Hussain Student of the Year- 2012 Director: Karan JoharOne film of 90's 'Kuch kuch hota hai' Directed by Karan Johar and now its Student of the year! Hell of a difference! I mean who makes a three hours movie on just playing games? The new comers Alia Siddharth and Varun were very Good but what was the story?? One can sleep while watching student of the year. When I was watching the movie I was wondering what struck Karan's mind that he decided to use his creativity this way? The songs were Good. Location was amazing but off course again what a stupid story line. At least I wont recommend anyone to watch this movie, instead I would suggest to have a Good sleep rather watching this. Three hours of Nonsense! KJ please make films like you used to.
ham004 Student of the Year (2012) Karan Johar writes yet another fantastic movie that keeps you wanting more. This year Karan Johar decides to spice it up with new faces taking the spotlight. Some born to famous families and others to commoners, yet Siddharth Malhotra was as amazing as the rest and in fact he was also known as the possible next Shahrukh Khan. The story starts off with the dean of St.Teresas college being ill and summoning the group of students who were close to him on his last year before he retired. The students all come for two reasons, to meet the Dean and get the answer to a question they've had for the past 11 years. The main characters involve, Rohan Nanda (Varun Dhawan), Abhimanyu Singh (Siddharth Malhotra), and a spoilt, loving, rich girl Shanaya Singhania (Alia Bhatt) This was one of my favourite movies because it has a family friendly concept. Most movies lately don't have a mixture of emotions but this film has a hint of every emotion to make every person in the family have a blast. The songs were very catchy and had different emotions as well. This movie is family friendly which is the biggest concern nowadays. My favourite part was when the student of the year competition began and there were different stages such as the dance, IQ test, and the triathlon. However, the song lyrics aren't as amazing as the music. On the other hand, people don't listen to the lyrics so much to get the emotion in happy songs and most songs in this film are happy and peppy. This movie has some scenes that involve swearing and fighting between friends when they are having an argument. In that case, you could just tell the children to go away or forward it a little. Finally, this movie has some scenes with inappropriate clothing with men and women but you could just forward that scene or cover the eye of who it is inappropriate for.I think that children and adults would enjoy this film and that it is a good film for weekends.Student of the year is a fun filled adventure that takes you through the college life for three students who are caught in the battle of friendship and love.
arka-421-734994 The first impression that you'll get about this film is that Karan Johar has tried a tad too hard to project Indian students and colleges as something they're truly not!Where in India do you find colleges like "St.T's" with devastatingly good looking blokes running after a girl who is above-average at best!Puh-leeeeeeeez, Shanaya (Alia Bhatt) is not some princess that she's made out to be in the movie, she sure is European looking but the last time I checked Indian beauties (Deepika, Bipasha, Priyanka, Lara) are far more exotic and gorgeous than some girl with 20% talent and 80% connections (father - Mahesh Bhatt). The real star(s) of this movie are the two male leads, they have far better chemistry than Shanaya/Rohan or Shanaya/Abhi. I see immense potential for both of the guys even though, Varun needs to brush up his acting skills and Sid needs to stop being a plank when he's dancing! Now coming to the reason why I rated this movie a friggin' 8, with all the bad and not very good things I've said about it so far; This movie is pure entertainment! - dancing, music, some daydreaming (who wouldn't have loved to be a student at a college like St. Teresa's back in the day!) lots of energy, some fun and frolic.I am not a critic and when I go to the cinema and buy a ticket I need to watch a flick which is my money's worth, mainstream Indian cinema is not really known for its class and masterpieces. Which is why I go for Iranian, French or Turkish movies when I need to watch something profound and meaningful and turn to Good Ol' Hindi Cinema when I need to kick back, enjoy some dance and music, you know just have a good time. And if a Hindi movie has all the ingredients of a masala entertainment, I am more than happy to rate it 8.P.S I am not saying Hindi cinema is all about pointless masala flicks, of course something worthwhile comes around once in a few years but I am happy that as an open-minded, diverse movie viewer I have movies from various film industries to cater to my moods.Watch SOTY when in the I-don't-care-what-the-story-is-I-want-to-kickback -and-chill mood.
Vijayanand Phad This is not just the typical KJo film, with lots of crying & Shahrukh ! Yeh, sorry to say but I was never a big fan of KJo's KKHH, K3G etc etc & Shahrukh too !So watching this movie had no expectations but it surprised me at few times in the film.Obviously film has some shadow of Karan but this movie is more realistic with no much emotional drama & crying. Some funny dialogues at serious moments make the movie light & fun to enjoy. Both the actors have done brilliant job. They look promising & have definitely long way to go.Aliya Bhatt has done good looking charming girl role but got very few dialogues. More disappointment comes with some stupid role by Rishi (part is gay) Unnecessarily too many songs & almost 30 mins of wedding ceremony (as movie is based on school life)Also, for first 20 mins, complete introduction, you can miss that for sure.Kajol effect is awesome. Looks really nice in those 4-5 seconds !Final verdict... One time typical watchable bollywood film. See for good & promising actors.
