Why You Might Like It: This is a decent abduction/kidnapping/"serial killer" film that you might enjoy if you are into that genre. It also brings the idea of technology into fold as the abductor uses the Internet chat rooms to lure teens to his home. The acting is very spotty, but I felt there were some solid performances by some including Dee Snider who plays the villain. Overall it is very mediocre and average, but okay and should keep you entertained if these type of films interest you.Why You Might Not Like It: Although I anticipate it is meant to be, the movie is a bit sensationalized and over the top. Dee Snider seems to deviate a bit from the content and get into some fairly sadistic themes and situations that don't add much to the final product. There is some really bad acting to go with some solid performances. Brett Harrelson is terrible and painful to watch as even his cast mates seem appalled by his acting in spots. Again, the story and product are fairly average and there are better films in this genre.Acting/Casting: 5* Directing/Cinematography/Technical: 5.5*Plot/Characters: 5* Entertainment Value: 5* Total - 5+5.5+5+5 = 20.5/4 = 5.125*

Strangeland seems to have a love/hate relationship with many of its viewers. I personally loved the movie, and everything about it.The acting in some places could be improved upon, but the filming adds to the atmosphere where the acting can't. In some areas, the dialogue is a bit cheesy and over dramatic, but really, what do you expect from the late 90s? Over all, Dee did an amazing job in writing what I believe to be one of the most terrifying thrillers I've ever seen. It plays on the fears of many age groups--adult, parents, and children. Every parent fears that their children will get too involved with chat rooms and will meet strangers from the internet. And it *does* happen in the real world. And every child and adult fears being kidnapped and tortured against their will; that happens too in the real world. Which is what makes this movie such a sensitive subject for many.My only warning is if you *know* you are sensitive to things such as strong violence, visible torture, and gore, then you do *not* want to see this movie. If you are unsure about if this movie will entertain you, then read as many reviews as you can, ask people you know who have seen this movie, and be prepared to turn the movie off at any time should you become disturbed.

This off-beat horror movie seems to be getting nothing but bad reviews. My question is; why? I think this movie is pretty good. Dee Snider did very well for his first (and only) time directing. He also plays the antagonist, Captain Howdy (Carelton Hendriks). This movie seems to have a view of the future. Although it came out back in 1998, it seems to be about modern issues. Internet predators seems to be the underlying plot here. Although taken to another level, this is an issue which we still face today. I'll admit, the story fell short a few times, but that doesn't make this a bad movie at all. Robert Englund is even in this movie, that automatically makes it better. THe acting wasn't bad, the characters were pretty good as well. Hendriks was a pretty good antagonist I think. I give this off-beat horror a 7/10. Recommend for fans of Saw.

Torture. Piercing. Branding. Carnage. If this excites you, this is the movie for you. Captain Howdy, an internet serial killer, invites kids to his house for "PARTIES" and he tortures them till they die, or w/e.I loved this movie for the simple fact that it was original. Well, in my case it was. I haven't seen other movies like it. It has awesome directing, great FX and above all, the best man to play the killer. Dee Snyder. This movie could have been better, but we as people have come to expect that not everything is going to be up to par. This movie is an exceptional piece of work. And to me it was far better than most movies I've ever watched. 10 of 10.
