My friends and I have watched this film on countless occasions, gathered around a TV laughing our cares away. I can not exaggerate the impact this film has had on my development as a person and a father. My favourite character is Bill Whitaker, a man who resembles someone we all know and cherish. The story of his struggle with his alcoholism, and his sexuality is both painful and inspiring for the viewer. The comedic value of Johan Hill is inspired, as he replicates the accent and mannerisms of the average Texan perfectly. Peter Dante is another star of the film for me and many others I am sure, his shark attack scene is filmed and acted with ultimate precision. I would know as I have seen a shark attack once, on a cruse holiday in south Africa. A big shark came and ate one of the natives in one bite. The shark made it away with no charge, scott free, highlighting the problems South Africa has with its police and judiciary system. A deeply troubled country that really needs invading and colonising. All in all this is a tale of woe and joy as well as being, possibly one of the greatest films ever created.

When his father dies, Peter inherits "Strange Wilderness," his dad's TV show about animals. After a huge ratings drop, the studio head gives the show two more weeks before he cancels it. An old friend brings a story about Bigfoot, so a long road trip is in order as Peter's team faces competition from a better-funded and more confident set of rivals. Who will find Bigfoot first, and will they get it on tape and save the show....Its a Happy Madison production, so if you know a lot about movies, you should know if that would have you steer clear, or just go with it.I'm okay with the fact that Sandler makes movies that many people just hate, but I for one, do not feel guilty in the fact that I like watching them, because there is nothing serious about them, and they are short, and very, very stupid, just the way I want my escapism movies. This has to be one of the most absurd ones the company has produced yet, and if it wasn't for such a great cast, it's bordering on slightly dull.Zahn has great screen presence, and his performance adds a little class to the proceedings. But then the support is great too, and this is where the film excels. Long is brilliant as the stereotypical stoner, and the funniest set pieces revolve around him, especially the scene where he is questioning a man about his name.It loses its way a little in the middle, the final act, featuring a feature on sharks, is so stupid, you cannot help but to laugh. Its one of the more weaker films from Happy Madison, but I still got something out of it.

This comedy adventure movie came out three years ago, and it first came to my attention when I came across a certain video online, but then I looked it up and saw that it didn't seem to be very popular. I found out just this month that it's from Happy Madison Productions, a company founded by Adam Sandler, which got its name from "Happy Gilmore" and "Billy Madison", though Sandler hasn't appeared in every film from this company, and "Strange Wilderness" is one which he doesn't have an acting part in (even if he was involved as an executive producer). Regardless of who was in the cast, I knew this comedy adventure wouldn't be hilarious, and probably mostly not that funny, but there was a chance it could have been amusing enough for me to give it a 6/10. However, I find myself giving it two stars below that."Strange Wilderness" was a very popular nature show back when it was hosted by Peter Gaulke's father, but the Gaulke father has since died, and his son has taken his place as the host of this TV show. Unfortunately, with the current host, the ratings for this once successful TV series are now really plummeting, and Peter is informed by the studio head that the show has only two more weeks before it will be cancelled! Determined to save his father's show, the current "Strange Wilderness" host hears about Bigfoot living in Ecuador, and believes that getting footage of this creature for the show will put an end to the poor ratings and stop the cancellation that's coming up very soon. Peter sets out on a trek to this South American country and brings a fair-sized group along with him. They all travel on the road in an RV, and Peter gets footage of various animals he comes across, but along the way, the group is headed for a number of problems. When the movie begins by showing footage of Peter Gaulke's father hosting his show, it already looks like it's going to be a lame comedy as we see a monkey's rump in the man's face. I think I remained straight-faced until the "Junior, knock it off" part, which made me smile. I believe the first time I laughed was what happens while Peter is trying to record his narration, which is not very far into the movie. I laughed maybe during two other sequences after this, and couldn't help but smile at certain other times, but this was far from enough to prevent it from being a dull experience for me. There are some juvenile quotes that fail at trying to be funny, such as Junior saying, "Have you guys ever tried to poop and brush your teeth at the same time? It's kind of hard." Some unfunny male genital gags are also featured here, perhaps most notably the turkey that won't let go of Peter's penis! As well as being unfunny, this movie also fails with the plot, and the cast and characters don't help, with Steve Zahn putting on a lacklustre comedic performance as the protagonist, and nobody here to overshadow him.It seems Happy Madison Productions has brought us a lot since the company was founded by Adam Sandler in 1999. Films I've seen which the company was involved in are "Joe Dirt", "Mr. Deeds", "Eight Crazy Nights", "Anger Management", "Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star", "Click", and now "Strange Wilderness". Of all these, "Click" is definitely the best, with "Anger Management" in second place, but I've found the rest of the ones I've mentioned to be either mediocre or slightly below, and "Strange Wilderness" is one I've found to be slightly below. I'm sure I would be unimpressed with a lot of the Happy Madison films I haven't seen as well. This one isn't one of the most widely despised comedies of recent film history, but there are lots of modern comedies that go too far with the juvenile humour, and this is unfortunately one of them. I don't think this 2008 comedy is horrible, but it still is weak.

Will it win an award? No.Is it the dumbest god damn thing ever put to celluloid? Probably. Is it also insanely funny? Hell yes.Does it achieve it's goal of making you laugh/killing time while you wait for a pizza to arrive before you watch The Bicycle Thieves or The Third Man? Yeah, and that's how I started watching this movie. My friends and I rented about eight of the best films ever made, then picked this one up because our local video store didn't have a copy of Miller's Crossing.It...rocked. In a night of the greatest movies ever made, we still loved this film for actually accomplishing it's only goal: making you cry with laughter.
