So, The scary bit is in the first 5 minutes when Liam sees a big tall skinny monster in the middle of the night.
The rest of it is a very calm slow moving movie that isn't gem trying to live up to its them as a horror. The only reason I stuck around to wat h is because I hav Sleep Parasomnia and it was interesting to see how the movie messed up on its realism, i.e. at one point Alice (the doctor lady) says to a little girl that she has parasomnia, however parasomnia is REALLY rare in anyone who isn't a 40 year old overweight man. Which Alice should have mentioned. Also any normal, intelligent doctor would have prescribed Colaznepan or some other sleeping disorder tablets that deliberately paralysises people so they can't get up and walk around a night and do strang stuff. Alice should have prescribed this to a lot of the patients in this movie. The sleep disorder centre, (the over night one) the kit they had the patients in, like the wires and stuff they had on their heads should have been a lot bigger and had lots of wires and control boxes all over them along with a big netting mask over their heads. Apart from all the continuity errors this movie is dull, but unique, it's crtainly not trying to scare anyone but it has touched on an area that hasn't been explored much in the world of horror movies.

I liked the idea of a horror movie based on sleep paralysis. It's completely different from nightmares while you're actually asleep and dreaming, so it's nice to see a new spin on it.Maggie Q is great as always. The other actors are decent. Child actors are pretty standard child actors (nothing spectacular). The story drags along a bit slowly for my tastes but it is acceptable for me. However, there are a lot of pitfalls in terms of common sense in this movie that it's not quite right. Not a movie I'd recommend specifically, but if someone was looking through some movies and asked me, I'd tell them I'd watch it. Not a bad movie, just not a good one either.SPOILER ALERTMy biggest criticism has to be the janitor and his father. It seems really randomly inserted and doesn't really quite fit in my opinion. They do not provide answers. They don't know more than what we all know. This is followed up by scenes where they're all just sitting there not doing anything. And the way the whole sequence happened with each individual's nightmares.. it just paints the family as incredibly weak willed and selfish. They even let a random stranger die instead of their kid.And in the end, they let the doctor get taken away into a mental hospital? You've got to be kidding me. She saves their kid and that's how they repay her?

It's A Good First Time Watch...Nothing Spectacular Or Out Of The Ordinary, Just What It Says " A sleep doctor tries to protect a family from a demon that feeds on people in their nightmares. The End!!! Oh And Drink Coffee Because You Might Slumber Off To Sleep!

What an awful film. There are a few really good well known actors in this film so why was there zero amount spent on special effects or scares is beyond me.Sam Raimi proved that you don't need massive amounts of CGI in the most frightening film I have seen for years in DRAG ME TO HELL - Simple shadow effects, elongated shadows under doors, strange noises, wind and a masterful horror touch that only Sam Raimi can perfect and yet this dire effort couldn't manage anything except that hoary old Exorcist chesnut of beds off floors and "invisible hags" (to save money on special effects after they obviously had shelled out most of the budget in paying the actors) lolThe only reason I give this more than a 1 star is that it stars one of my favourite Scottish actors in Sylvester McCoy who stole the show although not even he could make this passable. This subject of nightmares and ghosts has been utterly done to death (pardon the unintentional pun) in horror movies and probably the best was BOOGEYMAN and DARKNESS FALLS but this effort if you can call it that literally gives zero scares and more laughs of derision than anything else.If you need a soporific to summon sleep then perhaps they should actually have hired this movie to elicit slumber - as for this movie its a complete bummer!
