dabrahamson-97469 I've never been a huge fan of Whoopi Goldberg but I really loved this movie! It's family friendly and a decent story about a woman (Whoopi) on the run from the mob with some of their stolen money or something. Anyway she hides out in a nunnery and poses as a nun even though she's a night club singer. She's a real fish out of water but ends up learning a lot from the real nuns, helps them change for the better as well with her fun singing and dancing (which ends up so beloved by the community the Pope comes to see their choir perform), and helps the community get safer and cleaner. Just an all around feel good movie with some really funny moments, a lot of heart, and even some great musical numbers!
Hermione Granger This movie is absolutely brilliant! It's stuffed with great humor and a well-done plot, as well as original characters and acting that looks real. In some places, I could not stop laughing. The best part, in my opinion, was where the sisters were off to rescue the main character and needed a plane. The pilot wouldn't budge, so they started praying things like, "Father, do not blame this pilot for abandoning us in our hour of need," and "Please do not treat him with the same disregard that he's treated us," right in front of his face! I really liked the youngest nun, who was shy but sweet, along with the plump one, who was always cheerful. However, it's rated PG--parental guidance--for a reason. This movie is not like Cinderella 2015 or Finding Dory, which were also PG but still real friendly; you seriously need to have parental guidance. It's not just there being "dam*" and "hel*" in the movie, nor is it that there are guns. Some things get a little edgy in the direction of sex. Otherwise than the reasons it's rated PG, this movie is great and definitely a must-see!
SnoopyStyle Deloris Van Cartier (Whoopi Goldberg) is a singer in a Reno casino lounge act. Her boyfriend Vince LaRocca (Harvey Keitel) won't leave his wife. To her surprise, he's a mob boss and she witnesses him kill somebody. She becomes a witness for the police and they hide her as a nun in a convent run by the Reverend Mother (Maggie Smith). She clashes with convent life. She befriends some of the other nuns and she coaches the choir to some success. She also pushes the nuns to interact and clean up their rundown neighborhood to the dismay of the Reverend Mother. Meanwhile Vince has a large contract out on her life. The characters are likable. Kathy Najimy is fun. Whoopi has a bit of street wise edge that plays well with the other nuns. It's not anything with big laughs but it gives a few smile-worthy moments. It's conventional in its structure and humor.
slightlymad22 Fresh off her Oscar winning turn in "GHOST" Whoopi Goldberg once again delivers the laughs in this pleasing comedy. After witnessing a Mob Hit, a Las Vegas lounge singer is hidden by the police in a church.I'm one of the few people who prefers Goldbergs shockingly under used dramatic acting skills over her comedy ones, but here she hits the right notes (literally) Harvey Keitel is his reliable self in a role most people will have forgotten he did. Kathy Najimy and Wendy Makkena shine as two of the nuns and Maggie Smith is simply a delight as the Mother Superior who frowns on Goldbergs effect on the other nuns.
