First, the good, the killer,he is unique and very interesting when it comes to his personality. The kills, they are creative and have great effects. The setting and the beginning are very creepy. The score and cinematography are good. There is a great scene where the killer talks to a little girl.I like how the movie shows that nobody is completely nice. The best part is the first 30 minutes, similar to the Halloween remake, they both delve into the killer's mind and how he is affected by the world around him. Now,the bad,the characters, they are all unlikable and you don't care about any of them.Another flaw is that there is too much nudity,it makes you feel awkward while watching it.There is no suspense and the killer gets worse once he starts killing everyone in sight for no reason and only saying the word "punish".Silent Night,Deadly Night is very overrated(horror fans love it),although it has good kills, setting, and concept,it also is too in your face, with no characters to care about.

This tale of Christmas woe starts with a family taking a trip to see an aged family relative in a retirement home on Christmas eve. While there the old man appears to be in a catatonic state. His son and wife go to speak with one of the doctors, leaving their young son, Billy, with the old man. At this point Billy's grandfather suddenly comes to life and for reasons unknown, warns him about Santa Claus and to stay away from him. Naturally this freaks out Billy, who on the way home in the car exclaims to his parents that he doesn't want Santa to come anymore. While this is going on, a convenience store is undergoing an armed robbery from a guy dressed as Santa. He gets away but seemingly doesn't get too far as he breaks down and he flags down the aforementioned family still trying to get home. Despite the protestations from Billy, they stop to help. As Santa reveals himself as a criminal, he shoots the father as he tries to drive off, running the car off the road. He drags the mother from the car with intentions to rape her but after she hits him, he gets angry and slits her throat. Billy has run off to hide behind a bush leaving his baby brother crying in the car. Fast forward a couple of years, Billy and his brother Ricky are now wards of the state living at an orphanage run by a mother superior who seems to think that she's still living in Victorian era London and the only way to teach anybody anything is by beating it into them. Despite the misgivings from another, more caring nun, Billy's emotional problems over Santa and his nightmares at Christmas time are ignored by mother superior as just a lack of discipline and are treated with more cruelty. Fast forward even more years and Billy is now 18 and is being hired out by the orphanage for volunteer work at a toy store during the holiday season. After the instore appearance by Santa is ruined, Billy is coerced by the store manager to take over the role and from this point in, Billy is on a downward spiral. After seeing a female colleague get attacked and almost raped by another colleage during the after party, Billy kills him with some Christmas lights and then kills the girl as well. Personally I blame her for that as she was just saved from being raped, so yeah it's not a real good idea to yell at your saviour. Anyway, Billy then goes on a murderous rampage through the town after killing the rest of his colleagues, all the while making his way back to the orphanage to get his revenge on mother inferior. Needless to say he ends up killing just about everyone else but manages to get himself killed before he can get his final revenge, in front of his younger brother and all the other kids. And we now queue the hatred that Ricky ends up having for the colour red and everything else. Ignoring the fact that part 2 actually exists as a thing, this isn't too bad for a nonsensical horror movie. Despite nearly everybody in this acting like an idiot and doing things that most sane people wouldn't even think of doing, this isn't too bad and is actually worth a look. It's a "check your brain at the door" kind of movie and just let the ridiculousness unfold as is.

Silent Night Deadly Night has it all for slasher fans, and for people who may come to it just based on the premise and may not be well-versed. It has a simple enough set up (but fairly original) with a young kid who sees his parents killed in front of him by a disgruntled Santa Claus, becomes an orphan, and then snaps when he's an adult and under the control of some nuns. The movie is not any kind of 'high art'. Some of the filmmaking may not even be very good. But the movie pulls off some sequences that stick with you, and at times, often, it's very funny. It's somewhat disturbing, it's got some terrible acting, and lots of anti-Nun action. Highlight: the 'sledding' scene is the most random killing scene, but it does give a moment of pause from the rest of the psychological anguish of the piece. And yes, there is some of that too.

Silent Night, Deadly Night tells the story of a boy whose parents were killed in front of him as a child, and it was by a man dressed as Santa Claus. Not only that, the man shot the kid's dad in the head and tried to rape his mother before slitting her throat while the boy watched. He hid so he escaped, but the memory remained, even throughout Catholic school where the Mother Superior was strict and violent, saying punishment is good and all naughty children should be punished. Naturally, this messed with the kid's head, so one day when he's finally all grown up, Christmas time comes along at his job and someone has to dress up as Santa Claus. Well, who better than the kid whose parents were killed by Santa to play dress up! He then embraces being Santa Claus, a judgmental fat man who kills naughty people, and that's when the bodies start piling up.It's a truly dark story. The movie would have been much better had they focused more on the psychological aspect as opposed to it just boiling down to "Santa is a killer. Now I'm Santa. Now I must kill!" It felt like the whole setup was wasted for an anticlimactic, soulless killing spree. Sure, there are some good kills, and there are plenty of boobs in typical '80s B-horror affair, but it failed to make an impact on anything more than a surface level. It's an enjoyable movie, it's simply a matter of greater potential not being realized. Now this is a horror movie, not an unintentional comedy like its infamous sequel, and it's admittedly effective as one. It's refreshing when a horror movie has an actual narrative you can follow. Worth a watch if you're a horror buff or just want to watch Santa kill topless women for an hour and a half.
