Sharknado 5: Global Swarming (2017) 1/2 (out of 4)Fin (Ian Ziering) and April (Tara Reid) must run around the world trying to save their young son who has been sucked up into one of the sharknados. The two are also trying to figure out who to destroy these evil things one final time and it might depend on something from the ancient past. You know, I liked the first SHARNADO and I also slightly enjoyed one sequel. With that said, it's becoming rather clear that the producers haven't any original ideas as the stories keep getting worse and worse and they've gotten to the point where this fifth film is downright awful and deadly boring. It's clear that this series has run out of steam but sadly it appears there's yet another one to come. What you've got here is basically no story but instead you've got one location after another, around the world, that falls victim to the sharknado. We see our leads travel to these places and see the towns destroyed by the monsters. This was never fun and this includes a very dull opening sequence that pays homage to the Indiana Jones movies. The vision of tornados with sharks in them just isn't fun on its own any more so you need something else to go with it but there's simply nothing here. I really struggled to make it through the film and even the supporting performance of Olivia Newton John and the various cameos didn't help things. SHARKNADO 5: GLOBAL SWARMING is about as bad as they come.

This movie serves the purpose of a purposeful bad movie, ridiculous, generic dialogues, meaningless scenes, but it gives a twist to the story that one does not expect at the end, now I look forward to the next part with eagerness. is an excellent film for someone who wants to see something ridiculous.

And thus it is a work of wonder, a film in which sharks are caught up in a tornado whose origin is not entirely clear (And do we care? A mysterious mystical stone is as good a reason for unleashing the aerial selachimorpha mayhem as any other), but that nevertheless ensures that the franchise just keeps spinning. Add Fabio as the Pope and the majesterial Dolph Lundgren, and you have a film that pushes right on through to the cinematic other side and writes its own rules. There are naysayers who say nay, but I don't care: All hail Fin! All hail Sharknado!

The silliness of the SyFy/Asylum iconic series of films continue with the sharknados going global. If you have seen one in the series, you will have a pretty good idea what is going on. Tara Reid is bionic. The film spoofs and homages were numerous such as James Bond, Indian Jones, Back to the Future, The Road, and a bunch that I missed. Don't worry if you missed one, another is on the way. Note the "Monty Python" foot during the end of the opening credits.Highlights include: Nichelle Nichols doing lines from Star Trek. Olivia Newton John telling Tara Reid not to get too physical. Bret Michaels providing double decker bus swagger music. Sasha Cohen from 'Blades of Glory" plays a skater. Fabio as Pope, and Charo as the Queen of England. Singer/page 3 model Samatha Fox plays Ms. Moore of the MI6. Geraldo Rivera opens a small safe and nothing is there.Benjy Bronk plays in his fourth Sharknado film as a different person each time. This time he is a reporter named "Howard Beale" from the classic film "Network." Yes the names are all genius too, and I admit I missed a few references and movie lines. I didn't even come close to getting them all. What is unfortunate is that unless someone wakes up from a dream, this appears to be the final film.
