Mridul Mahapatra When R.Balki told to the media about this film, I was very excited. The only reason was it was supposedly a tribute to the voice of Mr. BACHCHAN , the 'BARITONE'. After watching this film I was satisfied mostly. The basic story is - Danish(DHANUSH) a born deaf and mute person wants to be hero and with the help of an assistant director Akshara(AKSHARA) and with the voice of Amitabh Verma(MR. BACHCHAN) he finally becomes a star. After this their ego clashes and both separates and realizes they both need each other. Again they unite but a tragedy spoils all.Although story is simple, the screenplay is really up to the mark. But the problem here is that some uneventful logic, long second half and climax drags. Also Akshara's character mostly seems uneasy. The film belongs truly to Mr. BACHCHAN and it is him for which the film works. DHANUSH too was superb. Other aspects were from medium to OK to good. Finally watch it guys for Mr. BACHCHAN.
Akshay Hegde Shamitabh directed by R. Balki has a unique non-formulaic story like his other works Paa and Cheeni Kum. With its theme serving as a heartfelt tribute to cinema-making has made Shamitabh my favorite Bollywood film of 2015 so far. Still, it is quite heavily flawed, which is rather disappointing as the plot did have immense potential. The story begins at a success ceremony of a film 'Lifebuoy' where lead-actor Shamitabh (earlier Dhanish) played by Dhanush is answering the media on the success of his debut-film. His voice is much heavier than his size and those who seen the trailer will be well aware of the plot. We then see flashbacks where young Dhanish is an aspiring actor from a poor family. Dhanish is mute though and gets constantly nagged by others for crazy dream to become an actor. After his mother's death he moves to Mumbai where he gets thrown out at different film studios. Finally, an assistant director Akshara (debutante Akshara Hassan) spots his talent. With help of her father who is a doctor, they take Dhanish to Finland were a highly advanced tech is planted in Dhanish's throat which enables him to speak but in someone else's voice through Bluetooth. But the job is not yet done, in search of a suitable voice for Dhanish they find an old drunkard grave keeper Amitabh Sinha (Amitabh Bachchan the legend himself) whose voice alone is enough to stun you. While the first half is refreshingly interesting and briskly paced, the same cannot be inferred about the rest of the film. Post- interval the screenplay becomes a bit too dragged out with the ego- clashes between Dhanish and Amitabh. Also there are many boring scenes especially some of the long monologues of Amitabh. Nothing falls short in the acting, Big B is always charismatic but its the dialogues which get quite repetitive. The two lead characters seem to fail to recognize each other's value again and again such that it feels like two kids fighting rather than ego-clashes of superstars. With a length of almost 2 hours and 30 minutes, a lot of work was needed to be done in the editing department. Music by Ilaiyaraaja is unique and catchy, some songs were impressive (especially Pidly sung by Big B) and they sync into to screenplay smooth as silk. Cinematography is apt and some scenes looked really stylish like the one in which both Dhanush and Amitabh are getting ready with black suits and glasses on. The acting by both the leads is fantastic and uplift the poor screenplay. Akshara Hasan has an impressive debut. In the end, Shamitabh has a lot of flaws yet the positives overpowered the negatives for me. After a surprising climax which may not work well for all,as the end credits rolled I felt Shamitabh was an eulogy to the cinema industry. As a hardcore cinema-lover I really love it when films are made about film-making. Unfortunately this honest effort by R. Balki fails to soar the heights it needed to reach. Even though I have rated it slightly less, Shamitabh was a memorable experience. Worth at least a one-time watch.RATING: [2.5/5]
Annu Annamalai Valliappan THE RISE OF SUPER STAR! Why we liking him now as comparing to past? First we wanna separate his Carrer as Before Aadukalam and After Aadukalam. For all, am asking how many Dhanush movie you like before Aadukalam? Maximum Two to Five right? (Like Kaadhal Kondein, Pudhupettai, Yaaradi Nee Mohini and Polladhavan) Picked Most rated 4 Movies from 17. But Fact is after Aadukalam (Like Mayakkam Enna, 3, Raanjhanna, Maryan and VIP) all movies were performance wise Top Notch! He won National Award for Critically Acclaimed Aadukalam (At the Age of 28) and He won Filmfare award Consecutively 3 times and Best Male Debut For Raanjhanna (First South Indian actor to get this). Who all are getting amazed with his performance and and his growth there is nothing to wonder and absolutely he worth on that! Now we wanna accept as He is not having any opponent and this horse will run till his last breath. Play Back Singer, Producer, Script Writer, Even he is interest to Direct himself too! When reporter asked About 'WHY THIS KOLAVERI DI' He Said, When I was writing down the lyrics, I kept in mind all the English words that are used in the Tamil vocabulary. Words like I, you, me, how, why, cow. I just framed them into sentences and that's how I came up with the song. After this success He Became Internet Phenomenon of India. Indian Prime Minister invited for the dinner party along with Japanese Prime Minister in his New Delhi residence, (I Came to know, The political parties in north India used variants of the song in their campaigns for assembly elections)Now Coming to Shamitabh! First of all i don't know Hindi. But i know our own Dhanush ! smile emoticon Plot is, A Dump boy, Daanish (Dhanush) dreams to become an actor since he was a kid. After his mother's death, he leaves for Mumbai to pursue his dream. There he has a chance to meet with assistant director AksharaaHassan (Akshara) who sees his true potential and wishes to help. Through her father's friend, She gets to know about a technology (which one the speech impaired person can speak). A device is planted in Daanish's throat, which records the voice of the person speaking to him through an ear piece and plays it every time he opens his mouth. All he gotta do is lip sync with the voice! Akshara and Daanish then search a drunkard Amitabh(Amitabh) to be Daanish's voice. After that one time Daanish becomes Shamitabh and a superstar overnight but all the limelight makes Amitabh jealous. Then ego clashes between the two and they split.. (Watch out movie for More...)I don't know About Amitabh Bachchan, Just Knew about him as he was a Genius and a great Actor. What is a wonder is, this is My First Amitabh movie to see at Theater! But he is simply delight to watch. Main reason why am came here was to speak about Daanish! Oh! Sorry Dhanush.. completely rocking, understandable and so matured. (The Scene make you cry which one small age Dhanush Performing for what his teacher told and various reactions form Dhanush in his intro song) Still If you not like Dhanush after this, there is nothing to speak about! Ilaiyaraaja Official BGM is out of world but there is Dejavu of some OLD Songs and Cinematography is PC Sreeram ISC what to say more than that? For me There is no exception before watch! but once you come out you will think of this. Feel free and go.. Worth a Watch For Splendid Performance from Lead Actors Like Dhanush Amitabh Bachchan and Akshara Hassan
SivakumarBalachandran Shamitabh (2015) Review: Dhanush and Amitabh together as Shamitabh. The story of two individuals who come together for producing the perfect act. Daanish (Dhanush) a mute village boy is crazy about movies and aims to rock Bollywood as a star in spite of his inabilities. Spotted by the assistant director Akshara he grows as an actor with the help of voice borrow technology from Finland research center. He borrows the voice of an old drunkard Amitabh. What happens then is Dhanush becomes an overnight star with Big B's voice. The cat and mouse game then starts setting up between both whether the body or voice that is bigger?! Clash of egos end up in vain and Akshara brings them back together for her movie.A new concept entirely taken up by three best performances by the leads. Big B simply delivered roaring performance with his voice. Dhanush the boy next door is outcomes as a promising actor day by day by taking challenging roles. The hypnotizing green eyed beauty Akshara essays her role very well that we didn't see her as an actress but someone who lived the role of an Assistant Director. She was the women in black throughout the movie.Awesome songs and BGM by Mastero Ilaiyaraja. Neat Cinematography by P.C. But what was lagging is some emotional connectivity to the story and the length of the movie could have been short. Thus making a strict one time watch for the performances. Overall 7 on 10. -Reviewed by Balachandran Sivakumar
