Erin Scream Queens combines the classic, lovable qualities of John Hughes' brat pack films combined with the cheesy horror of 80's slasher films. It follows a cast of delightfully superficial characters, inspired by Heathers, dressed in the finest couture. The writing is absolutely ASTOUNDING. The dialogue is biting, quick-witted, and overall, hilarious, and there's a TON of character development. One of my favorite things about this show is analyzing Chanel Oberlin (Emma Roberts) character arc. On the surface, Oberlin is cold and shallow, but throughout the series, we see that she is willing to make sacrifices for her friends and is deep down, actually a pretty awesome character. What makes Scream Queens so unique is that it follows a mainly- female cast of Millennial characters struggling with issues that many young women do experience, mixed in with the campy fun of a serial killing antagonist that's right out of Scooby Doo. I'm actually quite disappointed because I heard the ratings were terrible for this show, and apparently season three might not be happening. Not many young women have cable, and many of the viewers of this series are of this particular demographic, so I find it rather upsetting that they're basing the future of the show on ratings. Honestly, I've never encountered a series that is quite as campy, empowering, or inspiring as Scream Queens. I hope that they create season three, because as a young woman, I feel as if not many shows nowadays really speak to me the way this does. So many try, but not many succeed. In fact, I can't name one that's quite as great as Scream Queens. Also, on a more technical note, the acting, cinematography, costuming, editing, and production design in this show is just fantastic. I know a lot of people praise American Horror Story, and this is really similar in terms of cinematography and editing. Give it a chance, I know you'll just love it! :)
studioAT Take a talented cast, take a talented Exec Producer who knows how to make shows like this work, put them together and what do you get? This almost good/mostly average show.It veers between gory and funny with uneven ease, and season 2 probably hasn't been as good but the one constantly good thing about this show is Emma Roberts, who displays what a fantastic actress she is.She is able to take even the weaker episodes and make them bearable, and there certainly have been some clunkers along the way.I think it's not as suitable for young teens as it makes itself out to be, but for tongue in cheek entertainment, this show is OK.
HarleenQuinzel16 Great, just a fantastic TV show After my sister trying to convince me to watch scream queens i finally gave into her and said i would watch the show just so once i finish it i could say "i told you so" because i knew i would hate the show, never have i been so wrong.Even the first episode is amazing and i have read so many reviews saying it is stupid and poorly made but some people just don't understand that's the point. scream queens plays like an old slasher movie in a funny way. Its not meant to be taken to serious which some people just don't get. scream queens plays into the clichés like the jock and his girlfriend the mean blonde popular girl who would rather die then chip her nail polish, and i think its hilarious. If American horror story was a bit to gory for you or glee was a bit to dull give scream queens a shot I think its a great show and it doesn't hurt to a least watch an episode.
rynesapphiresky The first episodes seemed to confuse me, I wasn't sure if it was due to the Over Dramatic personalities and ignorance of the characters. The humor is sick and twisted which is the "better" kind of TV Show. Once you get used to the irony and strange behavior it's actually pretty addicting. I love Emma Roberts in her psychopathic roles and this by far tops her American Horror Story: Coven performance. The amount of times I had to question my intelligence at some of the humor was worrying. The Story line leaves you wanting more and at the end of the season you can't help but think how Season 2 will be. I rate this excellent only because there aren't enough series like this out there with a complete and utter "crazy/Psycho" appeal. If Glee, Scary Movie and Scream had an offspring this would be it.
