Leofwine_draca ROVER MAKES GOOD is a brief adventure from the Children's Film Foundation stable, made in 1952 in black and white and on a very low budget. The setting is a Cornish farm, where a couple of visiting kids get into mischief while exploring the old mine workings and are rescued by a precocious dog. There's no more story to it than that, but at 16 minutes in length there doesn't need to be.This is efficient storytelling, with a good depiction of rural life where the adults are all hard working and the kids are irresistibly fun. Some of the acting on the part of the children is touch and go, but the dog is the main star here and lovable as only screen animals can be. ROVER MAKES GOOD manages to fit the right amount of scene setting, adventure, danger, rescue, and heroism into the briefest of running times, and it has just the right Enid Blyton spirit to keep it entertaining.
