jkfullers The adventure part of it was great. Honest! But for people who think their kids should watch it, are underrating this "sexy" film. I would much rather if they left out certain scenes... (which aren't important anyway)and then just stuck with the adventure, so the whole family can watch it. But besides that, it's a very exiting movie with great comedy, drama, and suspense :) Anyone who wants to go to Columbia, might have second thoughts after watching this wild movie LOL.
adonis98-743-186503 A romance writer sets off to Colombia to ransom her kidnapped sister, and soon finds herself in the middle of a dangerous adventure. Romancing the Stone is a 1984 Adventure Comedy directed by Robert Zemeckis and stars Michael Douglas, Kathleen Turner and Danny DeVito. Personally i found this film to lack the aspect of comedy and action at times it's very silly and over the top and that is what hurts it the most plus DeVito's performance is very silly and not in a good way, the 2 main stars have a good chemistry together and the movie is watchable for the most part despite being really dumb at times. The soundtrack is good and the action is okay. It's not one of Zemeckis best films but it's not one of his worst either but it could have been much better if it tried a bit more at least . (7/10)
Predrag "Romancing the Stone" managed to successfully blend action and adventure with a good dose of humor that resulted in a thoroughly enjoyable and entertaining experience. It also helped Michael Douglas make the jump from television to A-list movie star and shot Kathleen Turner's career into the mainstream.Ms. Turner plays romance author Joan Wilder, who in order to ransom her sister Elaine, flies to Colombia to deliver a map sent to her by her late brother-in-law. Joan soon gets involved in a bizarre situation better than anything she's ever written. She gets on the wrong bus and soon meets Jack (Michael Douglas), an adventurer who lives by his wits. He agrees to get her out of the jungle for $375 in travellers cheques, as long as they're American Express. Because Joan has the map, several factions are after her, including Ralph (Danny De Vito) and lots more scary people. Jack talks Joan into going after the treasure themselves to give her more of a bargaining chip. This is a well made film with action moving naturally from one predicament to the next with the right amount of humor for a romance and adventure film. The music is excellent and the scenery and setting are exciting.Overall rating: 8 out of 10.
thesar-2 In a movie (and time) that looks like it would rip off Indiana Jones, I was impressed it really didn't. It's a harmless, fun and funny adventure that stood on its own. (For the opposite of these statements, look no further than the movie's own sequel, The Jewel of the Nile.)I vaguely, and I mean maybe I really didn't, remember seeing this many years (or decades) ago. So, this viewing appeared fresh to me, and I don't regret it. It was charming, incredibly set in the 80s flick and I had fun with the main characters. While not groundbreaking, even for the 1980s, it's a good throwback for those of us who love movies made with heart and not the CGI of today. If you have seen it and liked it, it's a nice revisit to the good old days. If not, no harm can be done from seeing a movie not restricted by some offended audiences of today.
