Leofwine_draca REST STOP: DON'T LOOK BACK is the sequel to a low budget horror flick I never saw. I didn't realise this until I'd already started watching it, not that it makes much difference. After a brief bit of back story, we join up with a trio of characters who venture into a hostile desert landscape in search of some missing people, and who soon find themselves falling foul of a sinister presence with murder in mind. This film does have promise, I'll give it that. The classic run-down desert locale is familiar from the likes of THE HILLS HAVE EYES and THE HITCHER and makes for a good backdrop for the action, but that's all we have here. Everywhere else, the story is a mix of torture porn, toilet humour, and random ghost scares which don't make a whole lot of sense when it comes down to it.For the most part, REST STOP: DON'T LOOK BACK sits firmly within unpleasant torture porn territory, as violence is meted out to innocent characters. It's all rather nasty and pointless, and as I'm not a fan of this stuff I hated it. But the rest of the plot makes little sense either and you don't really care for the characters anyway. Some half-decently directed material does nothing to make this a good film.
billbeast Load of rubbish. The film starts off good, and is enjoyable, right until about mid-way through, when things become laughable. One of the characters even has sex with a ghost. The movie was just plain stupid and had PLOT HOLES written all over it. It was predictable and one thing died throughout the whole movie. The plot started off good and then turned to rubbish. The amount of plot-holes and unrelated dialog was so stupid and it just made the filming pointless. The acting was surprisingly good, with a believable cast, take 1. One of the key elements to the film is the acting.Overall this sequel, is only to be viewed if you've seen the first, and even if you have seen the first, i wouldn't bother buying it, or renting it. My rating is 1.5/5
cuzndwyne-1 To say that this movie was not as good as the first and then say not bad, indicates that the first had some redeeming value to it all. Let me assure you. This one is better then the first, but thats like saying poo w/ peanuts is better then plain poo.It is completely predictable and the characters are about as likable as a string of small pox. Making the same stoopid mistakes that horror characters have done for the past 50 years. You would think that given the fact that this movie happens in present day the characters would at least acknowledge.."Hey we are dealing with spooky bad people. What happens to people who take they're eyes off the ghost or when we send someone to get something, by themselves? oh right....we get effed real good." Its bad enough that these characters are complete underdogs in this flick. At least try and make it interesting by having them make educated choices. At least make the lopsided fight somewhat interesting. Nope not this poop with peanuts of a movie. There is so much more to get into with this 88 minute waste of time. I just feel as though if I spend any more time on it then the "Driver" has claimed too much of my life as well.My rating for this flick....I give it an "A-holes" Means avoid this movie. If you have to choose between this and Wrong Turn 2...go with Wrong Turn 2. At least then you get Corn and Peanuts.
jonesyj I disagree with Mr. Schmitt in most things. First, the casting. Tom Hilts (Richard Tilman) wasn't overly likable, but he wasn't playing a care bear. I did like him and found myself routing for him and his quest. He channeled some real emotion and I definitely felt his pain. Jared (Graham Norris) was perfect as the dorky side kick, and I found him to be quite likable. Although I'm not sure he was supposed to be, I found him quite hilarious. The girlfriend Marilyn (Jessie Ward) wasn't a good hot chick, she is better described as the average chick, who was so annoying i found myself wishing she'd die a horribly painful and bloody death after the first 20 minutes. It did help ease the pain of her horrendous acting that she showed her boobies, although I'm pretty sure they're fake, so I deduct two points. Final score: Tilman 7.5, Norris 8, Ward 4.2.Torture and blood have always and will always be a necessary staple in the horror genre. There was nothing boring about the torture scenes in this movie, in fact, I'd say those scenes are what make the movie worth watching. Kudos to the make up artists. Could have used more boobs and hotter ladies. Also, the movie could have used more of the trailer family as they are the creepiest part, but I liked that they explained the back story on the driver and how it all began. The dialog is sub par and gets a bit cheesy, which is probably why some of the acting is also sub par, but that is to be expected with this type of movie. Overall, I would recommend it to anyone who likes a good horror flick.
