Michael Ledo Rattle snakes are attacking in droves and unprovoked. A militarily bio-lab is in the area. Sam Chew Jr. and Elisabeth Chauvet investigate. This is a pretty straight forward, not too mysterious film with cut footage of rattlers added, but not as obvious as a fine Ed Wood production. I watched the film on a 50 DVD set and the sound was not restored, hollow in some areas, uneven in others, and a buzz at the end. Film quality could have been better too. It does contain the classic woman in the tub scene as snakes come into the tub and she doesn't even try to get out.Guide: No swearing of nudity. Implied sex.
GL84 After a series of gruesome snake attacks, a herpetologist and a photographer band together to find the cause of the attacks and realize that a military experiment on nerve gas has affected the creatures and try to stop them from continuing their rampage. This one turned out to be quite the decent and wholly enjoyable creature feature. Like most of the other 70s-era creature features, a lot of this one really tends to work because of the realistic manner in which the creatures are portrayed here, with a realistic manner and reasoning here to make them seem all the more credible and threatening. This here is built upon the power of the swarm and the fact that there's dozens of creatures on the attack at once, which is where the scenes of the first attack on the kids or the later ambushes out on the field where there's dozens of the creatures throughout the scene here preparing to attack, and the realistic size here is given precedence to keeping this one rather nice and enjoyable. Likewise, other impressive elements that come from this realistic size is the ability to integrate the creatures really well into the action along the way, making the attack on the ranch, a house assault against the plumber and a simultaneous attack on the mother in the bathtub and the main sequence here of the two coming under attack during the investigation into the underground mine-shaft all allowing the creatures a fine opportunity to become involved in the sequence as the actual snakes are visibly seen being a part of the attack and generates some natural reactions due to that. This also makes them quite an active presence here with the main point of instigating the investigation of the numerous accidents and the overall secretive nature of the first half just showing the snakes rampaging throughout the countryside forcing that investigation is good enough to keep this rolling along so well here. These here are what make this one so good as there's a few minor parts keeping this one down. The film's biggest let- down is the finale, which is where this one seems to stumble as instead of being about the snakes it turns into a generic military cover-up action film which comes complete with a shoot-out and the requisite explosions taking out the main one in charge of the conspiracy rather than letting the snakes do anything as they're never seen again, and this whole section seems tacked on from another film entire such is the dramatic shift in tone away from the action that had previously passed before here. Beyond this, the film really wasn't all that bad.Rated PG: Violence, Language and children-in-jeopardy.
eegah1962 OK here's another movie of the "animals gone mad and randomly attack people" genre. A local sheriff investigates the deaths of some local campers from rattle snake bites. He calls upon a university specialist in snakes to help lead the investigation. The prof is joined by a pretty photographer to take photos (ostensibly) and provide for his other needs out in the cold desert (ultimately but not at first, of course). The investigation leads to military experiments, of course. Why is the military and radiation always liked together in these types of movies? (sigh) Anyway our heroes drive around in the desert looking for "clues" as to the rattle snakes' aggressive behavior. Because these rattle snakes are charged up with nuclear mutations or energy or whatever, they are capable of improbable feats, such as making coordinated attacks and even biting through the tire of a jeep as it is traveling down the road. There's some graphic violence in the movie and implied sexuality but no nudity. Elisabeth Chauvet makes an attractive sidekick and sleeping bag warmer for the prof.
lastliberal Now, we know who put those snakes on the plane. Two kids are killed after falling into a den of rattlers, and the sheriff immediately calls in a snake expert (Sam Chew Jr.). They fell in a rattler den, for goodness sakes! Some good snake scenes, sch as the rattler crawling up the plumber's (Tip McClure) pants, and some ridiculous ones, like the mom (Jo Jordan) in the bathtub getting attacked and not standing up so we could see her.As you would expect the dialog was terrible, and some scenes ridiculous, like the mine shaft explosions. Someone called it the "Plan Nine From Outer Space" of snake movies. I could not say it better.
