Takethispunch In 1943, as the Second World War rages on, India is fighting a combat of her own: independence from British rule. Subash Chandra Bose, founder of the Indian National Army, has become disenchanted with Mahatma Gandhi's Ahimsa (non-violent) movement and desires to fight fire with fire. Recognizing the growing dominance of Imperial Japanese Army in the Indo- China region, the INA allies itself with the Japanese, hoping to ride the wave to Delhi. Indian troops in the British Indian Army are locked in pitched battles with both the INA and its Japanese contingent. In one such skirmish close to the Indo-Burma border, Jemadar Nawab Malik (Shahid Kapoor) and a group of fellow soldiers are cornered by the Japanese infantry. Running to escape on a barge, he is shot and captured as a prisoner of war. Meanwhile, the INA's top brass desperately seeks finances to replenish its heavy ammunition to aid the charge to Delhi.
harafat A great movie by Vishal Bhardwaj again. Seem to be a bit slow in the end but boils down later on. The story is spell bounding. Acting is awesome by all actors. Kudos to Vishal Bhardwaj. Simply awesome ! This movie will entertains you to the hilt and touches you in a manner that isn't as simple to decipher and understand as it seems to be. And why it should be? After all, it's a Vishal Bharadwaj movie.
Kazi Imranul Haque Rangoon - Nice movie. Movie revolves around the pre Independence era and the rise of patriotism among the so called Indians who thought British rule was better than the power going in to the hands of their fellow Indians. In the middle of all this - a Passionate triangle love story. Story has a touch of Vishal's uniqueness, dialogues looks good with some famous Shairis included in it and songs are not so melodious however sounds good as have different kind of lyrics which resembles Vishal Bhardwaj type of movies. All actors have done a beautiful job. Shahid has really grown as an actor with some great movies in his bucket though the film doesn't allows him show his full potential as screen is shared by two other established actors. Kangana has a very good screen share and she used it wisely with her performance and beauty. Saif's acting has nothing new to offer. Supporting actors are good. First half of the movie is little slow paced but gradually picks up. Second half is decent. Overall its a good watch
Rawal Afzal The film seemed to give the impression of the ingredients to success, and an Indian film about World War Two itself sounds so unique and unheard of that one ends up pinning high hopes on it, but the plot and the story-line falls well below the capable mind and the intelligence of Vishal. The performances were pretty good, no two ways about it, especially of Shahid who looked so handsome and appealing as soldier with that mustache and the physique, and Saif was good (nothing extraordinary as Shahid since he got a very limited role) in his kind of territory of roles, Kangana... Well, she wasn't bad but I'm in general not a huge fan of her acting skills, in particular that shaky voice. But again, the plot fails the film.Although I've my reservations about the subcontinent's soldiers that fought for either sides in that war, but I can understand the admiration and the sense of patriotism attached with those who allied with Germany and Japan back then. This however seemed like a film that Vishal made on kind of force. He's not that kind of a man, his films never revolve around the emotions of nationalism. It seems so coincidental that director Kabir Khan makes a film ('Bajrangi Bhaijaan' 2015) which shows Pakistan in good light, then proceeds to go all patriotic and anti-Pakistan in a film like 'Phantom' (2015), and Vishal makes a film ('Haider' 2014) in which he takes a critical look in the happenings with the people of Kashmir, and then goes all patriotic in a film like this. Strange really! It can happen, we all can have a bad day at the office, but here's hoping that Vishal gets back to his usual best and continues to make the tragedies I so love with passion.Either way, Vishal deserves a tremendous amount of credit for unearthing the actor within Shahid. This man on his own has given Shahid a direction, a type of roles that he now knows that he can pull off. It's down to Vishal that Shahid's performances are now valued in the eyes of the public. Prior to that, Shahid was at best a poor's man Shah Rukh Khan - or at least trying to be!
