budsbuds I watched this whole film and at the end it is HER that Kills him! Her premonitions caused his death! If he would have just stayed on the side of the road both the car and the tanker truck would have missed him. He would have lived and been a Happy new Father and Husband! Terrible!
eric262003 Sadly the execution for "Premonition" failed to live up to what could've been an enthralling roller-coaster ride filled with mind- boggling scenes where our conclusions to be drawn are more than likely to be welcomed. Have you ever felt like being stuck in time? Linda Hanson (Sandra Bullock) has the unfortunate experience of being in such surroundings. She seems to weave back and forth from the past and future with little purpose and so much confusion. In many ways her story can resemble the likes of Kurt Vonnegut's "Billy Pilgrim" where one scene of her life swiftly changes back and forth to the point where she's at her wits end. Her roller-coaster ride begins on that tragic Thursday where Sheriff Reilly (Marc Macaulay) shows up at her door to tell her the news that her husband, Jim (Julian McMahon) was killed in car accident the day before he was scheduled for a business meeting.By the next morning, Linda wakes up discover Jim lying on the couch. And the day has transformed to a Monday as Linda dismisses her events as only just a vivid dream and goes back to sleep. By the next morning, Jim is deceased once again. It's Saturday and all her dearest close ones are preparing for her funeral while she's clearly not dressed for the occasion. Linda knows there's something fishy going on here and hopefully she could save her husband from his fate if she could find a way to manipulate the future through her premonitions. I'm usually fond of movies with with non-linear timelines like movie "Memento" among many other. Heck I even gave a similar film that Bullock starred in "The Lake House" a bit of praise that very few people did during its release in 2006. I bear no prejudices when it comes to suspending disbelief. In the duration of this 96 minute long roller-coaster of a film, Linda was able to change a few of the outcomes while unsuccessfully wasn't able to rectify all of them. All the while it seems to lack in any constituent pattern. Her week just goes around back and forth with no rhythm other just to weave through the plot structure. When it comes to performances, Sandra Bullock was really on her A- game. She's able to capture the painful ordeal of reliving her husband's demise while all performing it on daily basis in an enigmatic non-linear perspective. Therefore, she can't fully embody grief like most of us do when a loved one dies. She may look unhinged, but we can forgive her for her confusion she's facing. Peter Stormare is evenly impressive as her psychologist Dr. Norman Roth who's equally baffled as Linda is. Julian McMahon turns in a great performance as a husband who's relationship with Linda is on the rocks, but still has the time to be a devoted husband a caring father. A far cry from his Dr. Doom character. Sadly the acting can't get approved mainly because the script by Bill Kelly was never fully completed unlike his well polished script "Blast from the Past". Meanwhile German director Mennan Yapo takes it to an even greater low as his camera movements tend to move around in a way that becomes quite appalling which makes every scene uninspiring or uplifting. There are many methods to represent a character's confusion and disorientation without giving its audience migraines. Time travel has been a symbolical manifestation in the romantic fantasies, but writing about them is as complex as it comes. For us to get into these situations you have to make sense of it all, "Premonition" fails to accomplish that. Which is too bad because I really thought this movie had the potential to be really good. Sandra Bullock and company turned in terrific performances but the details to get the story seemed to fail in delivery which goes to show that a good movie isn't about just the acting. You need a coherent story so we can get more involved with the storytelling by the performers for a movie to sell. So while this movie survives on strong performances by the cast and the ideas have the audience in wonderment, it still fails to make any logical connections to keep us involved with the characters. In addition to that Yapo's camera work could use some greatly need improvement in the future. Plus there are some very disturbing footage with violent scenes and lots of foul language to keep advised. For some trivia this movie was originally supposed to be filmed in New Orleans, but because of Hurricane Katrina it was located elsewhere. I'm sorry I can't recommend this movie.
tuberoot Don't get me wrong, Sandra Bullock is a top notch actress in movies like this one. She doesn't disappoint. The other actors are good too. Julian McMahon did alright . . . I have to say, every time I see him in anything I am reminded of two things he was in, and I didn't like him in either one: Charmed and playing Dr. Doom the first time Fox screwed that superhero team up. So I think he did okay in this movie, nothing special though.Premonition is sort of a Groundhog Day meets thriller movie. So not that fresh, but what really took it down was the utter incompetence of everyone involved. Everyone from the shrink to the mother in law. Pure incompetence. That made me totally frustrated in the movie, I was uncomfortable watching it.By the time the movie ended, and some people didn't like the way it ended, but I was not really caring by that time. I just wanted it to end. I rated this movie a 5.
Kasey Clark Excellent movie. Had me at the edge of my seat the entire time. It's very cleverly written and well though out. Everything made sense. However, they snuck something quite scary in there. Something very traumatizing if it were to be seen in real life. This particular scary scene lasted a couple seconds, but still.. It was intense! Nonetheless, this film was touching and relatable. The movie itself has a sad, tragic feel to it. If you liked "The Butterfly Effect", you'll love this movie. Don't get me wrong, these two movies are completely original and unique. They do however, share the same theme. Thus, making them comparable.
