Before you read this review there is one thing you need to understand about South Africa, when it comes to afrikaans comedies, there is three names that is bankable, Leon Schuster, Willie Esterhuizen and Bakgat. Out of these three, Willie Esterhuizen is the godfather of the below belt sex romps in south Africa. His career started in the late 80s, early 90s and the 90s is best remembered for the sitcoms he created and Lipstick Dipstick, a movie about an really unfortunate horny man. A msut watch of South African Cinema. However since then he has mostly rehashed ideas from that film. Poena is koning is about an teenager (played by an man nearing his 30s) who is about to write his matric finals (the name associated with the final exam of high school in South Africa) and his shenanigans to have sex along the way but he falls in love and sings songs. A complete rehash of his earlier film and done in a much beter and much more tasteful manner. The film proved very popular in south Africa spawning two sequels, a spin off and a TV series (the two sequels are Vaatjie sien sy gat, Stoute Boudjies. the spin off is the molly and wors film and the TV series is Molly and Wors). the spin off seems to be a return to form and very original aside from some plot points already revealed in the trailer, I am actually looking forward to that film.

As a South African, traditionally I almost never enjoyed any kind of South African movie. This movie proved me totally wrong. I was amazed that a South African movie could be so much fun.Since watching it the first time I've watched it again a couple of times just for the laughs it provides.I'll probably be watching it again in the future because even though I've watched it a couple of times before it remains funny and watching it again brings the same laughs.I would rate the storyline average, even the acting but what makes this movie stand out is it's down to earth, flat on the ground humor. Funny as hell.
