Comeuppance Reviews When I think "action", my first thought is always Steve Guttenberg. Not Van Damme or Tony Jaa.The plot is: Stricker (Guttenberg) is a race car driver with a temper. When he doesn't finish his latest race because of rage, he quits. He is then embroiled with a gangster who wants to kill him. This is a Roger Corman production, which means low-budget crap. Guttenberg and Wagner look like they don't want to be there. The racing scenes are okay, but if they had more energy to them, it would be better. This is the time when Guttenberg was trying to be an action star, and as you can see, it didn't pan out too well."Overdrive" isn't horrible, but it's lazy and poorly paced. Skip It.For more insanity, please visit: comeuppancereviews.com
thehorselover This film was pretty good for a low budget independent film. Robert Wagner and Steve Guttenberg are a good acting team. I think the film's "low budget" worked for it, instead of against it. None of the charactors were too glamorous/handsome or too glib for reality. Even though the story line was something an ordinary person would consider very unreal, it was very easy to get into the story...largely due to the lack of glamour of the characters. Overall, a nice escape from reality. Which is often the whole point of watching a movie after all.
William This low grade would be action film gets real boring. Guttenberg plays a race car driver who is having trouble because of the loss of his wife and kid. But when an agent on the run (Models inc's Dobkins) enters into his life, and the action starts. Guttenberg look uncomfortable doing a low-budget Saban/Concorde co-production picture. In fact, he looks older than Wagner, who plays his race car pal. It's really strange to see Wagner sitting in a strip-bar, but I have to give him credit as he looks younger than Guttenburg and villain Stephen Meadows, both aged a lot. Dobkin, who played a nerdy secretary on "Models inc." is mis-cast. The film is just plain dull to be fun.
