This is a truly outstanding movie. Hilarious, adventurous, fun, entertaining, and a great story. How could this movie not been a bigger success? Goldie Hawn plays rich and arrogant Joanna, who is never happy or satisfied with anything. Kurt Russell plays Dean Profit, a dirty man with not huge sense of responsibility. Once the "overboard" incident occurs, Dean pretends to be her husband, initially just for revenge on how she previously cheated him. It's a complete disaster at first, especially with his dirty home and dirty kids that all con her into thinking she's their mother. There are quite a bit of unexpected twists and turns along the way. It's amazing what they unexpectedly and inadvertently teach each other along the way. There are so many laughs along the way, so many unexpected turns, and it is such a good all-around movie with such a humorous plot and great story-line that ends so happily.Though times have changed and it's now a little out-dated; it's still a great watch if you have nothing else to do, as long as you remember this was the mid-80's and how much life has changed ever since. Wonderful for an 80's movie, and a true 8/10 score in my book. BRAVO, Hawn & Russell!

I have to admit I have watched this movie many times and there are some funny things in it. Seeing Goldie Hawn is always a good thing. I do not think that I can support this movie anymore. A guy takes advantage of a woman that has lost her memory? Basically puts her through hell as a slave. Then falls for her and decides to have sex with her? Isn't that highly illegal? Shouldn't he be on a registry somewhere for this? Instead he gets the Coast Guard to help him and gets the girl. The girl is transformed through rape. I have to say I cannot watch this ever again. Still give it a 2 for the couple of funny things in it, but again this is a poorly thought out premise. Even though I understand that 1987 was a different time (that was the year of the release of the movie). I am sure people will read this and go, come on it is a movie. Think about it though.

Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell steal the show in their latest venture, Overboard. This movie delivers, somehow overcoming all obstacles to love, logic, and average filmmaking. Goldie Hawn is Joanna Staton III. A spoiled, rich brat, she loves being waited on, berating the help, and demeaning her trophy husband. The couple make a stop in Elk Snout, Oregon to fix her closet. Enter widower Dean Proffit, played by Kurt Russell. He fixes her closet, but she complains and throws a fit. After finally telling her the truth about her vicious personality, she kicks him overboard and sails away without paying. Later that night, Joanna falls overboard. While she is rescued, the shock of the cold water gives her amnesia. Seeing a way to get recompensed, he convinces her she is is wife, and the mother of his four rambunctious boys. Now the fun begins. Joanna in essence becomes "Annie" (Dean's name for his faux wife) and and she becomes a different person: learning to love, to serve, and give of herself. She learns to be a mother and teach her children. She even teaches Dean about love, relationships, and being a parent. Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end. Joanna's husband, Grant (played wonderfully by Edward Hermann), who saw an escape from Joanna's abrasive personality, finally realizes he must get her back to appease his angry mother-in-law. Yes, this movie sounds like a sit-com. Of course you would expect that from executive producer and director Garry Marshall who brought us many classic sit-coms in the 1970's such as Happy Days, Laverne and Shirley, and Mork and Mindy. And just like in a sit-com, the comedy often misfires. These two drawbacks, though, are pale in comparison to what the movie has going for it. Marshall is somehow able to make the whole preposterous idea believable. Hawn and Russell, with their chemistry, give us a working class couple many viewers can relate to. In fact, Hawn, usually assigned to perky cute roles, shows some talent as she plays a ruthless witch, who learns to become a mother. Going back to her previous life of luxury, she lets loose so much regret and conflict you cannot help but see the change. Russell, who also gets often gets by on charm, shows a little more depth. The best scene is when Grant returns for Joanna and all Dean can do is be quiet and watch her be taken away. Adding to that are the young actors who play Russel's sons. Finding a mother who loves them, they clamor for her as she drives away, plugging her ears. This is a fun movie. No, it is not a cinematic masterpiece, but Overboard is a good date movie, or a family movie. Either way, go see it.

not bad script, a lot of humor, inspired cast, mark of a modern fairy tale, clash between life stiles. one of adorable films who reminds emotions and fresh state of childhood. seductive at all, chain of adventures and hilarious situations, almost crazy in few scenes, film about responsibilities and values of life, it is a good occasion for meeting the spirit of a period, a nice love story, few real good actors in a film far to have great ambitions. more than a comedy, it is interesting for the simple message. and for kids. for Ken Russell who is perfect for his role - maybe, too good - and for Goldie Hawn who use her potential in right manner.
