hof-4 Un Amor (A Love) explores the infatuation (to different degrees) of two teenage boys with a teenage girl, all living in a sleepy provincial town in Argentina, and the consequences thirty years later. Personally, I find Lalo's reaction to Lisa's sudden departure somewhat out of proportion, but then there might be a bit of self deception in the way Lalo appraises his post-Lisa life. The film is somewhat slow and wordy at times but interest never flags.Bruno is very well played by the ubiquitous Diego Peretti; Luis Ziembrowsky (Lalo) and Elena Roger (Lisa) are at the same level. Paula Hernández's direction (she also co-wrote the script) is low key and keeps sentimentality in check. The cinematography by Guillermo Nieto conveys perfectly the feeling of a small river town.Hernández's three feature movies Herencia (Inheritance, 2006), Lluvia (Rain, 2008) and Un Amor (2011) are well worth watching. Un Amor has made it to the rental services. Herencia (but not Lluvia) is available in DVD Region 1 without subtitles.
