zakthomasnz This film had some truly extravagant set pieces, convincing acting and was perfectly shot. At first one moves towards Jack Nicholson as the star, but the realism and brilliance truly comes from the patients (Christopher Lloyd, Danny Devito etc.) and of course Nurse Ratchet. Through genuine shock and powerful directing and acting this film is ideal for any budding moviegoer.
kartalallen This film is my favourite drama ever. Hard hitting and thought provoking.....this film highlights the enormous failings of our metal health systems, which were (and probably still are) not curing or encouraging recovery....but containing and controlling. In this movie we see our main characters optimism and rebellious ways start to help the other inmates improve and recover from their problems....In the end we see our leading lady playing the nurse not only undo soem healthy recovery ..... but actually prey of his insecurities and drive him to a terrible end. Our lead man loses it and I felt all his anger and could see myself acting as he did in shear rage.....this is one of the strongest most emotional moments of any film i have ever watched, but brilliantly the gloom is tempered with a glourious ending of sublime hope.A remarkable story, brilliantly played by all the cast.....superb
menzynskitaylor The movie "The One Who Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest," directed by Milos Forman, would be rated 3 out of 5 stars for me because many changes were made while adapting the book into a movie, there was very little emotional connection for me, however the actors were great fits for the characters. There were many changes that I didn't appreciate in the movie version. Some important plot pieces were completely taken out changing the story line, such as Chief going to the fishing trip all together. Because of all these changes I had a difficult time having an emotional connection to the events and characters in the story. The changes made the movie seem rushed therefore the feelings I gathered from the movie was much less in comparison to the book version. However, the characters were all loveable thanks to the people who played their parts. Jack Nicholson, Louise Fletcher, Danny Devito, Brad Dourif, Will Sampson, and many other actors did a phenomenal job depicting their characters just as they were in the book. Reading the book of course I was going to have a biased of the movie; however, the people playing the characters in the story truly gave me the most perfect representation of the characters that I was imagining in my head. I would have wanted more screen time to have had the story be better developed so I could have more of an emotional stance on the movie, and so we could have more screen time with these amiable characters.
felchjasmine "One Who Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" directed by Milos Forman should be rated a 4 out of 5 because mostly follows the book, has very good screenplay from the actors, and the plot is almost seamless. The first criteria is the connection of the book to the movie. There were a few parts taken out, but it did not take away from the movie. The most important events from the book were portrayed in the movie; an example would be when Chief and McMurphy were sent to disturbed. The second criteria is the great screenplay of the actors. I think that Jack Nicholson and Danny DeVito did a great job playing the characters as Randle McMurphy and Martini. The actors portrayed the reason why they were in the ward very well. The last criteria was the plot. The plot of the movie was for the most part very easy to understand, and it was entertaining. I had a hard time understanding the fishing scene, and there were a few characters missing from the trip in the movie that were originally present in the book. Overall, the movie had fantastic screenplay, a flowing plot, and the movie closely follows the book; this is why I decided to rate the book a 4 out of 5 stars.
