sunnylight-73927 First off all, I want to say that I like movies with a similar plot, but "Obsessed" is not one of them. The acting is incredibly bad. Idris Elba is one of my favorite actors, so I blame the director here, although Ali Larter did a good job. She is very hot, so is Beyonce as well. The beginning of the movie was interesting, but after the first 30 minutes the movie bacame lame, with so many unnecessary scenes. Some of them were ridiculous, especially the action scenes in the end of the movie. And the biggest problem with "Obsessed" is the running time. I do not mind long movies, but this one could be done in 30 or 40 minutes max. The other hour+ was just a filler.
wes-connors Attractive and successful financial adviser Idris Elba (as Derek Charles) becomes acquainted with leggy blonde "temp" Ali Larter (as Lisa), when several office secretaries take time off. Frequently flashing her legs, Ms. Larter is efficient at work and makes it known she's available for sex with Mr. Elba. Happily married to beautiful red-haired Beyoncé (as Sharon Sheridan), Elba declines. Larter doesn't take "no" for an answer and tries to seduce Elba, repeatedly. She pleads for fellatio then jumps in his car to show off her underwear. Elba tells Beyoncé, "I would never cheat on you," but can't convince her the naked blonde in his bed wasn't welcome..."Obsessed" is a predictable, sub-par "Fatal Attraction". Elba is able to get in some fairly good acting, though his leading ladies are less lucky. Larter could have been helped by some back-story involving her sketchy character; that she has a sister adds no understanding. Mostly known for her recording career, Beyoncé simply hits the high notes. Capable and recognizable players Christine Lahti (as Monica Reese) and Jerry O'Connell (as Ben) have little to do, but they do it well. After some slow-going and implausible communication, director Steve Shill tries to liven things up and leave viewers swinging on the chandelier, so to speak. That works.****** Obsessed (4/23/09) Steve Shill ~ Idris Elba, Beyoncé, Ali Larter, Christine Lahti
Prismark10 I have never been a fan of these stalking type films such as The Hand the rocks the Cradle etc. They do little for me except offer some type of banal predictability and it takes a special screenwriter or director to elevate these type of films into something out of the ordinary such as Fatal Attraction.Obsessed is nowhere near even ordinary. I still cannot fathom how I struggled to the end of the film but I feel I should have received a medal for endurance.Idris Elba plays a faithful husband and father who has moved to a nice home, has a great job but an office temp (Ali Larter) has become obsessed with him and threatens to destroy his marriage with Beyonce. You keep thinking Elba's other famous screen character, Detective Luther would had sorted Larter out in seconds but here he plays her with kids glove as her behaviour becomes increasingly erratic and then a detective turns up when she tries to commit suicide. Why would a detective turn up in such circumstance I have no idea. Also why she would interview Elba in front of his wife is even more bizarre and at no time does she do a background check on Larter or check out her medical history. The film fails as a thriller and as entertainment. Larter who was so effective in Heroes is lumbered with a one note character, Beyonce is serviceable and Elba can do a lot better than this.
Anne A. The title of this review about sums it up. 'Obsessed' is one of those movies that leaves you speechless in the worst way possible. I can only think of one other film that had the same effect on me, and it was Glitter. So yeah, that's saying a lot.The worst thing about this movie is that Idris Elba is in it. I mean wtf? And Ali Larter? How did they even think this pos script was worth their time? How did anyone think this pos script was worth their time? It truly boggles the mind. The script is so dull and simultaneously far-fetched. Black man strikes it lucky. Perfect house, perfect son, completely overbearing and distrusting wife in Beyonce Knowles, high-flying career. A Bentley! Amazing. Then hot, leggy white blonde gets a job as a temp and takes a liking to successful black man. Black man don't want no problems, turns her down, repeatedly. White girl goes from seductive and charming to complete psycho with absolutely no motive, nor rhyme or reason. Just, "surprise! I am utterly deranged!". We find out nothing about why this woman is the way she is, or why she becomes obsessed with our protagonist. Does she have an interesting past that is hinted at or revealed? No. Does she actually have an affair with the guy but is scorned by him? No. Nothing. Who cares? If anything I sympathize with her character because it is true, their marriage is a complete sham it seems, what with the wife having absolutely zero trust in her husband, how do they even love each other with that kind of relationship? The kind that calls for him to fire every female co-worker that comes to call and where he would feel like he was jeopardizing his marriage by going to a game with his buddy? Shock bloody horror right? The complete ridiculousness of the movie is polished off with a terrible soundtrack where we are bombarded with some modern popular song every other minute to distract us from the misery that is this movie and the plights of the characters that we have absolutely no investment in. I guess the makers of this film expected to sell tickets by appealing to Beyonce fans? But she doesn't even appear much in this film until the end and her acting is dreadful? Oh I give up. We all know this is a terrible movie. I just wanted to chime my opinion in amongst the slew of other 1 star ratings on here because I just got done finishing watching this against my will and needed to vent my frustration somehow.0/10, but 1/10 because 0 is unavailable. I sound angry but really I laughed my way through this movie. It's so bad that it's just bad, but provides occasional comic relief if you like satire. And Obsessed is basically a parody of itself.
