sooriyah007 Its been a while since a movie has left me with so much warmth inside. Its simple story of love that is challenging conventions. The story itself, although simple has a lot of depth to it and the actors really bring it to life. Although he challenges conventions Mani brings it a full circle back to the fact that marriage although flawed in someways is the epitome of unity between 2 people in love and that sometimes you have to just jump in instead of finding faults. And the soundtrack for once seems to have found perfect amalgamation with the movie itself. It really adds to the emotions that is driving the storyline. And the fact that there isn't the usually stereotypical bad guy is refreshing. For anyone who wants the feel-good warmth should definitely watch this movie. My only peeve was the slightly off dubbing. But other than that at the end all I wanted to do was to listen to the songs over and over again. Watch it to judge for yourself.
paddyfields-33152 The movie is about a boy and a girl who get hooked and start living together. The boy jumps the gun when the question is popped. He prefers a live-in life compared to a legally binding one. Lame. There are those who we wish continued making movies and those we implore God to stop making movies. Mani belongs to the latter lot in my simple calculation. There is nothing original at all about OK Kanmani. It's evident we have lost our Indian roots. What is so great about making a movie to emphasize this loss? Yes it's the 21st century. How many times are we going to say it as if it justifies every bit of stupidity? One word for Mani, retire. Newbies in Kollywood are cooking up very interesting movies on a small budget. People like me still enjoy movies that project good values and not lost ones. Mammootty's son is no jewel to the eye in contrast to the well-endowed heroine Mani chose to exploit. Shame.
koushikrishnan ‪O Kadhal Kanmani‬ - This is how an ace director returns back to form and hit backs at his critics to show that he is here to stay. So here again he is back with a lovely, fresh, contemporary tale on present day love and relationships set in a beautiful backdrop. It is amazing to realize that how a single filmmaker can study and make a movie for every generation he was in. Cast wise, super cute acting by the limited yet talented cast with some snappy humorous dialogues. Once again Mani Ratnam, the master he is, shows more importance to the female lead and has made Nithya Menon portray a stronger character which in some ways looks many steps above the male lead - something which is very rare in present day cinema. Dulquer keeps up with the practical role of a jolly good modern day youth and succeeds in making heads turn with his acting. PrakashRaj puts in all his seasoned acting experience and it was indeed a joy to see him doing a loving elderly role, away from all the typical roles that he usually plays. The biggest surprise however was Leela Samson - who shows no signs of fear and flaws for a person facing a movie camera for the first time. Together, this older couple forms the crux of the movie and I wish this sweet loving pair will remain in people's minds for a long time. As someone already remarked, it is kind of a contest between A.R.Rahman and P.C.Sreeram as the movie starts unfolding. Except 2 songs, all the others were utilized as a background track which made it way cooler and memorable than expected. Special mention to a soundtrack which was a fusion of Carnatic song and modern hip-hop score - which I guess must have been Mani's idea of combining both the worlds. Taking a bow to ‪P.C.Sreeram‬ sir & Thalaivar ‪A.R.Rahman‬ for breaking their limits every time to give a rich feel and goosebumps with their incredible effort. In a nutshell, OK Kanmani is a beautiful, poetic tale through which Mani Ratnam has carved his niche and shown his class again. I just wish that they had trimmed the length of a few scenes. Yet, he has successfully taught a lesson to present day movie makers on how a romantic modern day movie should be weaved with his trademark screenplay and visuals. And finally, he is back in the game big time! Hope his magic continues in his further movies in other genres as well!
harish ganesan Before I begin , lets credit Dulquer & Nithya as they rocked the show. ARR ,P.C Sreeram & Mani Sir combo again has given us a gift in OK Kanmani. My review being a die hard Alaipayuthey fan , would have been biased before watching OK Kanmani. But after watching OKK, lets say that we are blessed with another enchanting movie in OKK , which is on the same level as Alaipayuthey or if not better. ARR songs are in a different zone. Just like how he has been mesmerizing us with his songs the last 23 years, this movie's song will surely melt you. Nithya simply stole the show - If you watch the movie, perhaps only one thing will pop in your mind- your sweetheart , the love of your life. Trust me Nithya has those beautiful expressions which bewitch all of us and inadvertently you would slip into the thought of your partner. Dulquer , Prakash Raj and Leela Samson all have been great in their characters. It's a plot which has 2 love stories revolving in the same house. One - the young crazy passionate love between the leads and the other matured love between the aged couple . The movie intricately teaches us how to love and give space to your better half. It also throws light on Alzheimer's disease and how to take care of our loved ones even in adversities. Lastly I would like to sign off telling- even after 25 - 30 years from now, you would still watch this movie with the same excitement and love for your spouse - just like how you may enjoy watching The Notebook or Alaipayuthey even then, the ever green romantic movies . P.S:Watching it with your spouse/sweetheart is highly recommended to enjoy even more. You would love watching it nevertheless :)
