TheMarwood Night Of The Demons 2 never knows what the hell it wants to be. Camp? Horror comedy? The tone wavers from something out of the broadest cartoon, to actually ratcheting up decent horror thrills, but never finds its footing. The last act ups the silliness with holy water grenades, nun action and never knows when to quit - it just gets sillier by the second and the film suffers all the more from it. What precedes the last act never reaches the original, but it's a worthy follow up. The production design, cinematography and makeup fx are cheaper than the first entry, but this quick 3 week shoot is competent enough to be worth a watch. The barely one dimensional characters add to the hokey fun and the silliness and low death count keep this from being remotely memorable.
Michael_Elliott Night of the Demons 2 (1994) ** (out of 4) Sequel to the 1988 cult favorite has a new group of teens going to the creepy house but this time they're taking along the sister (Merle Kennedy) of the killer from the first film. It doesn't take too long until Angela (Amelia Kinkade) shows up and the killing starts. NIGHT OF THE DEMONS 2 will probably appeal to those who enjoyed the first film but as someone who found the original to be just okay, the thrill of going through pretty much the same story again really didn't strike me as fun. If you're looking for nothing more than gory kills then this sequel is going to keep you entertained but for me there was simply too many times where I felt that we had been down this road plenty of times before. It's really not too shocking that a sequel would just re-do the first picture and this here at least tries to pay homage to the first. The famous lipstick scene from the first movie gets re-worked pretty well here and there's some nice humor running through the film as well. The scene with a woman's breasts I won't spoil but it's quite memorable in its own right. There's also a lot of jokes aimed at a ruthless nun, which actually works most of the time. I was also surprised to see that I enjoyed most of the performances and while none of them were Oscar worthy, the actors at least fit their roles nicely. The death scenes are all pretty good and there's plenty of the red stuff to keep horror fans happy. With that said, the film was simply too poorly paced for my liking and at 96-minutes this thing ran on way too long with too many dry spots between the kills.
mattbaxter72 It's a largely forgotten 90's horror flick, starring no one you've ever heard of or are likely to hear of again. It has the requisite boobs and gore, probably went straight to DVD, and it's the sequel to a truly awful film that no one liked. You know pretty much what to expect from this one, right? Think again. Against all odds, this is one of the most inventive and bizarre horror films I've ever seen. From breasts that turn into grasping hands, rape by lipstick and a decapitated body that stumbles blindly around, to badass nuns with party balloons filled with holy water, this movie takes you to places you never thought you'd go. The plot is more or less by the numbers, but the characterization is well done and believable, the acting is on a decent level, and the whole thing is much more entertaining than it has any right to be.Admittedly, there's a LOT of set-up to get to the good parts - the whole first half of the movie is splatter-free, apart from a couple of door-to-door evangelists who meet a sticky end. But once the movie does get going, it's full of wit, invention and, yes, frightening scenes. This is how you do low-budget horror.
ctomvelu1 An ambitious sequel, NIGHT 2 shifts back and forth from a Halloween dance at a Catholic school to further antics at Hull House. Several students decide to ditch the school party and raise the roof at Hull House instead. Big mistake. Angela is back, and performs yet another slithery dance (remember that the actress was a ballet dancer). This time around, we have a nun and a priest to add to the merriment, and in fact the nun steals almost every scene she is in. The special effects are still pretty dreadful, but the filmmakers have upped the gore quotient as well as the laughs, which were pretty much nonexistent in the original. The big battle with Angela at the end is the movie's one clever bit of special effects, and well worth the wait. There was a huge lag between the original and this first sequel, and one can see the influence of several bigger-budget horror flicks on NIGHT 2, most notably FRIGHT NIGHT.
