Tweetienator I am really surprised that Mutant Chronicles got such a low rating. I like it a lot - the flick got a very own visual design, some good actors (Ron Perlman good as always) and a very dark story, a good mix of elements of sci-fi, fantasy and horror.Well, I rewatched Mutant Chronicles lately and still liked it, but I also like such pearls like El barón contra los Demonios (2006) and Zardoz (1974) a lot. So my taste may be a little too alien for the "mainstream".Anyway, with its visual power and "broken" and fast storytelling Mutant Chronicles reminds me a lot of European comics of Juan Giménez, Alejandro Jodorowsky and Moebius and the like. If you like your dish sometimes special just try Mutant Chronicles - it may work for you well.
Leofwine_draca I had very mixed feelings about MUTANT CHRONICLES, the delayed follow-up to British director Simon Hunter's slasher debut, LIGHTHOUSE. Part of me hated it and part of me loved it, all at the same time. How could that be? Well, the problem with the film is that it's absolutely loaded with shoddy CGI, which I typically hate. The whole film is made on a green screen, like 300, except the effects just aren't very good in MUTANT CHRONICLES. It looks cheap, and fake, and the rubbish-looking CGI blood doesn't help either. The story begins all over the place, with a cheap-looking war scene and some sonorous voice-over explaining that the future world is a war-torn place. It's all rather uninteresting, until you realise that this is a straightforward men-on-a-mission monster flick, dressed up as something else. Once the mission begins properly I found myself enjoying it, right up until the predictable but nonetheless entertaining climax. The cast is pretty interesting, too. Thomas Jane is a no-brainer, having previously proved himself a dependable action star in THE PUNISHER, but it's a delight to see Ron Perlman without make-up and as a good guy for a change; he's the best thing in it. In support are two femme fatales: Devon Aoki, virtually reprising her role from SIN CITY, and the lovely Anna Walton (who also teamed up with Perlman in HELLBOY II: THE GOLDEN ARMY). Sean Pertwee bags the usual Sean Pertwee role. MUTANT CHRONICLES certainly isn't great, but the second half is a darn sight better than the first and I did find myself enjoying it despite my initial reservations.
nitinjain2285 I gave this movie 1 out of 10 stars because IMDb does not allow me to give less than that. If it would have, I would have probably given a zero or even negative. Producers and directors who make such movies should be banned from film making. These 111 minutes which I spent on this movie are never coming back and that would be one of the greatest regrets of my life. Where do I start and where do I end to describe this movie. A machine came from space 10,000 years ago that converts humans into mutants. People bury it and during a war it resurfaces and starts converting humans into mutants and a group of people go to destroy the machine. Mindless story which is fit for people with no brains. Everything from story to direction to acting to action to screenplay to cinematography makes me want to pull out my hair. If you ever want to waste your 111 minutes, just keep staring at the wall, but please do not watch this useless thing called movie.
dave660 I had heard about this for a long time but never really gave it a second look for some reason thinking that it was just a cheaper knock off in the horror game movie craze(Doom,Resident Evil,Alone in the Dark..etc) well, surprise, surprise I really liked this! The movie actually has some really good talent in it,Tom Jane,Ron Pearlman even John Malkavich in a quick cameo role!) The movie's low budget actually helps it giving a unique ultra gritty almost steampunk look. The mutants themselves are not too bad either. My only real complaint was that there was so much non stop action that there was almost no time given to the characters. personally, i would have loved to have seen a little more of the ass kicking Devon Aoki. This is really worth a look if you love video games or action movies and are just burnt out on bloated crap like Transformers 2.
