roy-938-693906 A Toxic piece of cinema malpractice which essential gas-iights abuse victims. Other valuable lessons: 1. Small town people are stupid, shallow, and clueless; The'll accept and go along with anything however vile that gives a hint of authority (Bullies can inspire in that way) 2. The typical big success circuit is utterly phony and populated with evil, mean, angry, and greedy failed individuals. 3. Victims of abuse are deluded losers who probably deserve it. The abuse made the good people even better. 4. Mothers are to be worshipped no matter how blind, manipulative, and enabling they are 5. No one can be told the actual truth: "I was abused" 6. To win embrace your inner hatred 7. Toughness is the highest value 8. Your book sucks, you're a phony, come back to corn-land where real people live. I wanted to rinse by brain in mouthwash. Disgusting.
Python Hyena Mr. Woodcock (2007): Dir: Craig Gillespie / Cast: Seann William Scott, Billy Bob Thornton, Susan Sarandon, Amy Poehler, Melissa Sagemiller: Here is a comedy that is all too by-the-book yet it also presents a theme that many viewers will likely relate too. Memories of physical and emotional abuse. That is what the stern character of Mr. Woodcock stands for. Seann William Scott plays a successful author whose self help book has landed him a top prize in his home town. Problem is that his mother is engaged to his abusive gym teacher Mr. Woodcock. Predictable with Scott attempting to sabotage the relationship thus heading to a corny redemptive ending. The two leads pull through the weak script with Scott totally back treading anything he stood for in his book. Billy Bob Thornton as Woodcock is the symbol of our childhood fears. We know that these two will be forced to call a truce. Directed by Craig Gillespie with supporting roles that are a total waste. Susan Sarandon as Scott's mother is totally cardboard. She will give the lecture near the conclusion but someone should have lectured her on the role. Amy Poehler as Scott's manager is underused. Melissa Sagemiller plays Scott's love interest and she's more or less a prop. Well made comedy with a message of past pain that is evident as we all muster up images of a Mr. Woodcock from somewhere. Score: 6 / 10
Daniel Coninx What started out as a mildly entertaining comedy version of "The Count of Monte Cristo" (you know : wronged man exacts revenge upon the body of his enemy, where you find yourself rooting for the former pupil of an unbelievably cruel gym teacher, to finally get the better of his Nemesis, actually ends with the morally ambiguous (to say the least) finale, which states that it is actually alright for teachers to bully, humiliate, hit, and generally terrorize children. Well done, Mr. producer. Instead of the pretty damaged youth getting the upper hand on the man that virtually ruined him for life, we get this cheesy "moral" of "what doesn't kill you, makes you stronger." Great. Now that we've all had that epiphany, there's nothing that stands in the way of us making life for our children completely unbearable anymore. It actually feels like the jocks from school made this movie to justify themselves...
Pizza_hut_delivery_guy In truthfulness, my rating is actually more like 6.5 stars, but the site forces you to do whole numbers. I don't watch too many comedies these days, but I thought this one was pretty well done. Somewhat predictable, but well acted. Also appreciated the fact that not every joke was about sex. Susan Sarandon is lovely and B-Bob does a solid job as does the rest of the cast. I was surprised by this since the movie poster and title seem to imply an "American Pie"-type story line with a couple of 40+ yr. old stars in leading roles, but it was pleasantly more mature than American Pie and, in my honest opinion, way funnier. By today's standards it's a fairly clean movie although I wouldn't exactly recommend watching it as a family,
